Official MTB / Mountain Biking Chit Chat

They do indeed make the nevegal in 27.5 x 2.35, almost put one on the front of the SS but went with a suspension fork instead.

Went for a ride today out near Oakley HQ. Didn't record the ride though, my phone didn't charge enough last night. Was kinda cool to get to see Oakley HQ up close and in person. They weren't open though. :( Did get to see the APC and all the toys they have outside. I have pics but my friend still needs to send me some of the pics.

Cool! One of my favorite spots. What trails did you ride?

Not in 650b. Just like 29", the big manufacturers are slow to broaden the product range.

Didn't realize you needed 650b.

I honestly have no idea. MY friend live down there so he might know the trails a little better. We parked at the little parking lot on the left that was a little ways down the road from Oakley and took the trail that points up right next to the entrance. After that I was just following him. We did find some jumps and DH trails after we went through the metal tunnel under the road.

Had a new friend talk me into bringing the single speed out to DuPont and riding with him and some friends yesterday. It was by a large margin, my hardest day on a bicycle, ever. The first couple of trails, I was struggling badly, and everyone could tell it too. Turns out, I was spinning myself crazy trying to keep up. Once I figured that out, and everyone was cool with me laying back and finding my own happy rythym, my day got a lot better. It was still a metric crap ton of suffering for me, at my fitness level. But I started smiling, laughing, etc . Pretty much everything you're supposed to be doing on a bike. And, I had fun; so much so in fact, that I can't wait to try it again. Big thanks to Kirk and Ben for being such great ride leaders and hosts, and just all around good guys to hang out with for a great ride!

I stopped here...

I survived the climb up Cedar, which I never thought I could do on the SS. Kirk had more faith in me than I did myself, and told me I was stronger and could do a lot more than I thought. Turns out, he was right. Sometimes, that's all it takes is for someone to give you a little positive reinforcement, to plant that seed in your brain. Having just started riding again this year, this was a HUGE accomplishment for me personally. Thanks Kirk!

Two different access roads, somewhere in DuPont. I have no idea where I'm at.

Did you take the imba built trail down from the air strip? I think that is the best trail in the whole place! Too bad it is short...

I don't know to be honest rupps, I'm not real fimilar with the trail system. We were at the end of airstrip looking back at Pisgah and Brevard, and took a right shortly after heading back down the strip. It was a downhill run with jumps and switchbacks, and hella fun. I love ridgeline and a couple others too.

2015 race bike came in today! 22.4# with pedals and power meter. Very few of theses bikes have been made so far so it is kinda cool to have one.

SLowest rolling, overweight pig of a tire that I ever rode, sold both of mine asap after couple rides. Specialized Purgatory up front is lighter, faster roller, great traction even on wet roots and rocks, better braking too.

I'm running the 29x2.3 (more like real 2.2") in 2Bliss (with a tube)
Specialized Bicycle Components

They also have the Control casing version
Specialized Bicycle Components

Both of these are made in 29er and 650b. "thumbsup" Avoid the S-Works version due to sidewall cuts from what I've seen and heard.

GEAX Sagurao is great front and rear on Single speed, not as good on wet roots and rocks as Purgatory, but it's usually available at www.performancebike.com for half what the Specialized tires cost and it makes great rear tire. Specialized Captain is great rear tire too, especially on wet rocks and roots. Available in 26, 650b (27.5") and 29er

I've got a pic of leaves like that on downtown sidewalk from last winter, dunno waht causes it but looks cool.

I'd ride that. "thumbsup"

Do we have any fat bike riders? We finally got our Chinooks in the store.

Nothing fancy, but the Sram x5 version is listed at 799. I'm anxious to see what the EP is. The ride on these is stupid fun, like a two wheeled rock bouncer.

Yeah Nate, I know. They're going to get replaced, but probably not until I do new wheels next spring. So for now, I'm just rolling with what I have. Thanks for all the suggestions. "thumbsup"

Finally got my yeti!! Spent hours last night dialing in the suspension and cockpit. Today is going to be awesome.

Very nice!!

Nice yeti! My dad just picked up one of the blue ARC 29ers. Beautiful bikes..
