New gearbox and gear options

I did a CNC pocket operation on the plastic gear. 2 fluted .069" endmill. Now that I look at it closer the plastic gear has .015 +/- .001 in meat left on the far side and in turn is rubbing the case. I will more then likely just throw a berg 4th in there to avoid having to mill more plastic 4th's.

How did you modify the Berg locker to fit the plastic gear?

I dont suggest putting the Berg stuff into the MT gear without a mill or some precision tooling. Youre really better off just doing a Berg 4th gear and Berg locker anyhow.

I know I'll probably just end up using the berg stuff, I'll just have to grind down the tang on the mt shafts.

Well, got a smooth rolling case. Put a berg 4th in and slapped some gearscience gear gel ( yeah, knowing the guy that sold that stuff and having him as a buddy is nice) in the case, she is nice a quiet. I'd like to thank Dlux for all the help and great products.

Man, you keep beating me to an update. I put all berg gears in the case, haven't added grease yet, but they're 99-100g with the case and all gearsz

Yeah, I don't have a weight yet. I am running mt plastic big gears, mt metal small gears, berg 4th and locker, axle master shafts, my own low profile upper link mount, and ss screws. I'm sure I can get more weight out of there. I'll be machining my own TI shafts here soon.

I was in a hurry to get mine together cause I was doing a million other things at the same time so I didn't really take pics. But I got my front axle together with berg gears, lost 20g doing berg instead of mt gears. My rear plastic 2nd and 3rd have still been holding up great. I'm getting my 40 series wheels and tires setup in the next couple days so we'll see if I can destroy the plastic gears or not.

I just put my truck on a buddies scale last night. Dlux tubes, highland crawler front shafts, VP wraith knuckles, hr Xr chubs, berg front cases(shaved w/ lightend berg gears) stock berg lockers frant and rear, traxxas big bores, mini-t springs, jr 8711 servo, narrowed wraith wheels, shaved boss claws,ti links, cc bec, FXR, heyok dig switch, mt rear case, mt rear gears, axle master rear shafts, sr300 rx, home grown chassis, xciter body, blah blah blah. 3.6lbs!
Still got some shaving to do, but that good for not having turned the shock body's. also have 2.5oz knuckle weight in each front corner.

Nice man! That's awesome.

Yeah, now that the snow is gone it won't stop raining. I want to get this bad boy on the rocks. My buddies told me a 700 rig wasn't possible. Now to prove it can perform.

I know how you feel man, it's been raining like crazy here too.

For everyone else, I'm running berg gears up front of my 6lb super on 7.5 inch tires with dlux adapters, plastic 2nd and 3rd rear and haven't had any issues. I assume that as soon as I replace my motors the rear gears will shred though.

What motors are you planning on running. I got cheap 35turns and they are fine for me. I do plan on turning some weight off of them and my bigbores. I think I can get it down to 3.5 and go from that point. I don't care if its super light or not. I haven't gone as far as I can with the machining and creative mods I can do with CNC and 3d software that I have. Once I do though, you may see a blue star.

I'm planning on either 55t hh torquemaster sports, 55t rc4wd motors, or 50-55t fireball motor. Just depends on what money I can scrap together.

I can also drop a lot of weight on my super, ounces, I just have to do it. But what I think helps the gears live is that I don't have much for rotating mass, I think it's around 8oz per tire/wheel/foam. But I'll weigh that when I get home.

Did anyone have trouble with using the plastic mt gears with the mt smalls and a berg 4th and locker? The gears seem to rub each other no matter which way i do it. The mt metal large gears work no problem. Ideas?

Will there be axle tubes for the mt that are a direct fix?

If I use the berg 4th gear with the mt gears and berg 3rd gears. Does the 4th gear still need to be machined?

ok so it looks like im not the only one running these gear boxes from erik...
I ordered a complete axle set from him heres what im im running
dlux tubes
dlux upper link mount
Mt gear boxes with steel front/plastic rear gears
7075 lockers
berg 4th gears
sds 3rd gears
adapters for 3rd gear
axial chubs
bully shafts in the front
bully knuckles machined for bigger 16mm bearings
bully knuckle weights
7075 rear shafts
delrin hubs...
these r currently mounted on my dlux truck chassis with titanium links made by dlux...
there is one problem I did run into and that is u need to space the upper link mount away from the case otherwise u will not be able to adjust it... me not knowing this I grinded down the bottom of the link mount so I could adjust it. I lost the bottom whole but that's ok it wasn't needed in my case... I would love to post some pics of it but im not able to... sorry guys

We want pics anyway!

Send me some pics. I want to see how they turned out.

I think I am just going to say it every time this thread is bumped...... I cant believe more people dont use these parts. They are lighter than any Berg based parts (except my super lites) and they are cheaper than just about any option out there.
