well i took advantage of the 50+ degrees today to get outside in my shop to make my truck some killer bumpers....started with some 1/2" square tube my frame is made of and cut....

TT138.jpg

ground down the corners to make it easier to use my dremel's cut off wheels to remove the back side of the tube to have a more 1:1 C channel bumper....

TT139.jpg

TT140.jpg

some cuts to contour the front of the bumpers so not to look so bulky....

TT141.jpg

TT142.jpg

took them over to my buddy's house a few doors down to mig weld the slots closed instead of silver soldering them, then some grinder work and presto....

TT143.jpg

TT144.jpg

made up some frame mounts from 1/8" steel plate, drilled some holes and brazed them in along with the winch fairlead from 3/16" tube....

TT145.jpg

TT146.jpg

mocked up on the truck to see how they look and fit....

TT147.jpg

TT148.jpg

TT149.jpg

just a little bit of grinder work to final fit them and off to get bead blasted and painted....stay tuned to next time folks and thanks for looking........bob

this is some great work bro! "thumbsup"
love to see the build up of this great rig.

learnt some stuffs today. :)
thanks for sharing the details!

made my rock sliders for the truck, used 1/4" tube and brazed a 5/16" dia ball bearing to the ends and ground them flush with the 1/4" O.D. to make them look capped off....

TT173.jpg

TT174.jpg

i learned when i made my tube bumper that it needs a breather hole when brazing both ends closed so a 1/16" drill took care of that....

TT175.jpg

made and brazed the legs on, then made the plate's to bolt to the frame....

TT176.jpg

TT177.jpg

i'm getting good at this metal fabing chit, i only had to enlarge two holes for the 4 bolt holes to line up on only one slider........bob

my 1st scale comp is on 4/7 and i'm getting it buttoned up....the bed is done and painted and the cab is still waiting on styrene work and seats for my willy driver....i'll have finished pic's soon "thumbsup" ........bob

....

well going through some changes after i had it running a few times to clean out some burps....but for now did a change to my tool/battery box with a new lid....

TT178.jpg

the old lid was all deformed from the tenax 7R melting it too much....it was just a slip on top like a shoe box lid that kept falling off when i was on my side with the truck  ....so i made a new top with hinges for it so it won't come off any more "thumbsup" ....i glued the middle box hinge part to the box body and the lid parts to the outer part of the lid with 3/16" styrene tube with an 1/8" solid rod as the hinge pin inside....

TT179.jpg

TT180.jpg

closes nice and tight now and just needs some paint....it was done after i made postklankers box for his TF2 flatbed i made as well, i liked the idea and ran with it.........bob

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but it is a hugely impressive one!

Any updates?

I see a few things that, based on the rest of your work and obvious skill, I do not like, but otherwise it is an amazing build! I wish I had your skill and resources!

DC.

enlighten me on what ya don't like, I won't get all butt hurt on you  :lmao: ....yeah still a work in progress, interior has to be finished and wild willy put in yet....spill the beans man, what don't ya like ??....

Please keep in mind that this is not meant to be an insult, just simply conversation.

I looked through the thread again and my opinion changes a little.

I just think that your brackets to the axles look ... I don't know, odd, but that is likely just my opinion. It looked, at first, that you just re-used the brackets from when you had it with leaf springs.

Your motor/transmission plate, and your transfer case look so well done and clean that the flat strap holing the t-case in place just looks rushed and messy.. I would have expected some beautifully fabbed thick chunk of aluminum to act both as the spacer and tabs with which to bolt it down cleanly.. something like this:

As another personal opinion, the front clip looks disproportionally-long to me. The bed looks fine, even the extended wheel arch, but the hood and fenders look like a standard definition photo on a wide-screen TV :P

It did give me an idea, though, getting one of those clodbuster bodies and WIDENING it to model a truck I grew up around.. My father had a Chevy C-30 flat bed.. I wouldn't mind replicating it, just because.

All told, your truck is amazing to be honest. You are possibly the one person who can most-accurately say "No, I BUILT my truck" in a while!
