Losi 1/10th Roller

Rich Trujillo,

Worm gear help? Not sure if you are using plastic worm gears... But if you are, these guys are some of the best in the industry. We use over 12 million of thier worm gears per year, to drive air doors under the dash of your car.

If this doesn't help... click on their "Winzeler Ads" tab. Might give you a little smile, to go with your gear pain in the a**.

Good Luck

The gears should be different materials, like bronze on one or something.
That is how it's done in other applications. If they are the same material, they will chew each other up;)

Thanks guys for the offers of help. We are not using molded gears, and as Tanis stated, using the same materials can be worse than mixing it up. Other than working out the little bugs in the worms, everything else is good.
Thanks again for the support,
Rich

Its good to know that its just the worm gear that you guys have to focus on. Any chance that if you guys solve the problem by mid march that we could see the release date change:?:

If it is not to late, can you change the hardware to metric for the production run :?:

That one is too late and not going to change. As I've stated before it was my call early in the decision process and in hind sight maybe not the best choice but it is what it is. I hope all will forgive me :D:oops:

The ship date is still looking like the end of May

O well. Maybe Losi or a aftermarket vender will offer conversion kit? Just a thought. Regardless, I think this rig is going to set the bar very high for other manufactures to try and compete in the rc crawling market.

I'll keep my 4-40's and 5/64's. Metrics are for girls :).

I think if you were to take a vote metric would be the choice of most.

If Losi or a aftermarket company make a metric conversion hardware kit, then we would have the choice.

Yes, you are most certainly correct. I, however don't live my life by consensus, thus I'm perfectly happy to stick with english measures.

It's not a big deal to me though. All my motorcycles are metric. The one thing I hate though is mixing of the two on one vehicle..... GM!

Bummer indeed...

On the plus side, I ran the Comp Crawler completely stock with no weight in the wheels last night at RCP crawlers FNF indoor comp and I pulled a tie for 2nd. The suspension is dialed, and the rig is working awesome.

Here's the setup I'm running so far just to give you guys some ideas

ESC: Mamba Max
Motor: Novak 55t
Steering Servo: Hitec 7955
Dig Servo: Losi Mini servo
Suspension: Completely Stock 8)
Battery: 3S 20C Losi Lipo

The wheelspeed is a little slower then an Axial with the MM/55t combo, but its enough for most courses. I will be trying some more motor/ESC combos this week to give you guys some more info.

-Jake
Thats the kind of info I have been looking for. Thanks for the comparison. You think a Holmes puller would fit in it?

Thanks guys.

Moose, that is correct, no freewheel with the worm design we use.

The big thing is getting constant materials, thread pitch etc. on top of that the right ratio.
Worms gears are not as efficient as a standard ring and pinion but we still feel that the benefits you get from worms will out weigh this issue. We are very very close to getting them right, but even when we do, there are lead times to get parts made, this is part of the hold up. We are doing the hardcore testing right now and you guys will see updates from our team guys that have them very soon.

Thanks again,
Rich

Hmm...I think Del Monte owes me $20 now. After you and I talked at Apple Valley, I had the feeling this was happening.

I know Horizon has their own contacts, but I too have been in the overseas manufacturing biz for many years, so if there is anything I can help with on parts lead times, or manufacturing sourcing, let me know.

Wonder how Hitec's Karbonite material would work in htis application?

Another quick question, but given the push back for the release of the crawler does this also push back the release of the aftermarket parts? It would be nice to be able to pick up aluminum c's and knuckles when it's first released. Although I assume vendors on here will also be pushing out some goodies too.

It sounds like most of the issues are worm drive/gear ratio related. If Losi shared the specs on standard aftermarket upgrades like C's, Knuckles, etc., then the delay is only going to give vendors more time to perfect their offerings.

I still have my new Losi ordered and I know that they are only perfecting their product so that we the consumers won't have problems to deal with, but HOLY CRAP THE FREAKIN SNOW IS MELTING HERE and I need my new crawler, just dropped 150 smackers on a new Holmes motor and sidewinder for this thing. Maybe if I sleep with my new goodies under my pillow like teeth the RC Fairy will bring it too me early. Probably not.

I am thinking of taking a pair of pliers to my son's loose tooth and putting under my pillow for the comp crawler. It would work too, 'cept for the visit from CPS hauling my off to jail:-(

OK I'm a newbe to all this but I have to ask. I orderd the losi and want to buy all the right equipment and not sell myself short. So the question is what will a rear dig do for me?
