Ittybitty's BERG

Made a few changes to my rig today since I received some new parts from T1E yesterday. I reworked my BRXL's using 18g wire throughout, swapped out my lower links for the DLUX lowers for the Rockshow SS. I would have stuck with the links I was already running, but the rear delrin links were contacting the chassis and limiting suspension travel. I thought I'd probably have the same issue as klabeaume with the chassis hitting the rear gear case, but everything clears on mine. These changes resulted in a loss of around 3.4oz.

I'm running aluminum screws in the top posts of the chassis, but all of the others are Ti. All of the cross braces are aluminum Axial posts with the exception of the two lower ones at the skid. I had all of the same hardware installed in my SS chassis, but I still lost 1oz in the switch to the new one. I wasn't really looking to switch to a CF chassis, but I really liked the design changes that came with this one over the SS and thought I'd give it a whirl "thumbsup" Thanks to Vertec for the design and to Nick at T1E for getting it cut and shipped to me quickly 8)

RTR with 800mah 3S is 4lbs 12oz since inquiring minds will want to know.

I'll get some pics up shortly...

18ga. wire? You weighed the truck? It's under 5 lbs? Who are you and what have you done with Ryan?

Looking forward to seeing it. I really like that chassis."thumbsup"

EDIT: I'd like to see how high your clearance is. Will you throw in a "ruler at the skid" pic.

Tell me about it...I'll know I've definitely lost it when I slap a set of plastic wheels on this rig...not gonna happen while I still have some resemblance of sanity :lmao:

I'll get that for you tomorrow...lighting is piss poor in here right now...that and I've got things EVERYWHERE

Here are the pics I've got at the moment...these are the "best" of the ones I took. I didn't realize the lighting was so bad...I'll try to take some outdoors tomorrow.

Looks great.

I made some adjustments to my rear upper links after 1 pack. I had one Jato rod end on each of the rear uppers and replaced them with Revo rod ends. I did this in order to be able to clock the DLux rear link mount up in order to provide enough clearance between the uppers and the rear motor since I wanted to move the uppers down to the bottom hole on the mount. I don't have anything but my little rock pile here at the house to "test" on so I'm hoping to get out on some real rocks for a few minutes tomorrow on some familiar lines in order to really see how it's working.

I'd like to do some work on the knuckle weights this week. I've been putting this off because I have a hard time cutting up the VP weights, but I would like to reduce the weight of the base by half or more and move as much of the weight that I end up running out as far as I can into the wheels. Currently I'm running the 8* kncukle weight with a single 1/8" ring cut in half and mounted to the bottom half of the base weight. I also have these half rings spaced out using some Revo ball ends. I'm not sure if this truck is going to want to run slightly less weight than I was running previously or about the same so I'll be messing with that tomorrow if I have a chance.

The panels are "temporary" in the sense that I threw them together quickly tonight in order to provide some protection for the chassis and to see if there are any issues with the sizes/shapes that I chose to go with. I'm not happy with the hood since it ends up getting tilted back whenever the front fully compresses...it rotates on the cross brace that its zip tied to. Other than that I'm happy with the panels so far.

I've got to work something out on the skid too. I can't make up my mind on battery placement. I like the protection and simplicity of the original style T1E skid, but I also see the benefits of moving that weight to the front axle. I know I liked having it there on my XR, but as we all know the bergs just don't make that quite as easy to do. I've got the new style skid sitting here and I like what klabeaume has done with his, but I'm just not sure which way I want to go yet...

Looks good Ryan. Let me know if you need any help or tips with anything. I've got my truck cycling the suspension smooth and I am very happy with my end results. Just have a few more loose ends to tie up.

IMO... as you drop the knuckle weight you will want to drop spring rate on all 4 corners.

The upper placement looks pretty good.

If you don't want to cut your VP weights, the Dlux base weights weigh considerably less. "thumbsup"

Looking forward to your opinions and pictures. Justin is having great results with this chassis.

You know I will "thumbsup"

Yeah, but he doesn't have them for the 8* knuckles, and I'm not fond of the set screw method of holding them on. With the 8* weights I think I can get away with cutting the back side flush with the knuckle and then cut it in half leaving two adjustment ring holes. If I do this I will be left with 1 of the holes that hold the base weight to the knuckle which I believe will still be plenty.

Looks sweet, Ryan. Is that a "one of" chassis? Kinda looks like a hybrid of a couple others I've seen. It'll be interesting to see how it works compared to the rig I've seen you win with. Really nice so far though.

Pretty good. I was having two or three issues that I wasn't having with the SS chassis though. I'm not sure if the first one was due to the amount of heat in the rocks/tires, but on this really steep climb that I use to test my rigs it was lifting the front before it finished the climb. With the SS it would slow crawl all the way up and over. It's just a long climb that gets progressively steeper as you go and then has a break over at the top. I moved my rear uppers up one hole at the axle and this helped a little, but not completely. This also keeps me from getting the full "suck down" in the rear since the uppers hit the cross brace now. I wanted to try moving the uppers around at the chassis, but I really didn't have much time on the rocks so I just didn't get to it yet.

Another issue I was having was on climbs where the truck was at an angle. It wasn't "sidehilling", but more of just an angled approach at a climb. The uphill tire was lifting and most often would cause the truck to fall off or lose it's line completely.

Sidehilling showed some improvement with this rig, but nothing extraordinary compared to my previous setup.

Breakovers...let's just say this was the biggest area of improvement so far. I'm not completely satisfied with the DLux rear lowers compared to the T1E delrin links though. For some reason the arch in these isn't quite as high as the T1E links so they tend to hit things sooner than I would like. This was obvious when hitting an undercut with the rear axle. I could hear the links hit the rock and the truck would stop...of course a quick throttle blip usually cured the problem though.

I need to pick up some more springs and try swapping them around and see what works best. I won't be going to the Mini-t silvers. I just can't stand them. They're too soft and seem inconsistent. I will be trying the MRC silvers again and see how they work out though.

I'm already running 30wt...won't be going thinner than that I don't think. Do they make different pistons for the SCX shocks? I'm currently running the blue MRC springs all the way around.
