That makes sense, I never include the weight difference between a dlux aluminum knuckle vs VP etc.

Yeah, neither do I. I think a VP knuckle is somewhere around 14g, not counting bearings so actually somewhere in the ballpark of my AL knuckles when fully fitted?

I also have 4 Tungsten slugs stashed inside those aluminum knuckles. ;-)

Too heavy. Will never work.

The only thing I am not really happy with right now is my sloppy balls. :lmao:
When I swapped out the aluminum balls in the bent shock rod ends they don't fit very good.
Is this inherent to the manufacturer of the bent ends Erik?
I guess I need to find the steel balls I pulled out and see if they are oversized.
I know back in the day we used to put a drop of superglue in sloppy rodcups,
thinking about trying that on these...
 
Yeah, the bent rod ends are a true 6mm, Traxxas balls are just a hair under.

I dont like sloppy balls on my shocks, I do what you did on my links on purpose though for a smoother suspension.

Different manufacturers use different diameter and width balls. Rc4wd, ssd, traxxas and axial. The latter 2 are interchangeable. I want to say rc4wd uses the largest diameter followed by ssd. The issue arises because rc3wd and ssd both make angled and P shaped rod ends that are useful as fawk but you can't use the readily available traxxas or HR aluminum balls to shave a bit of weight in them without excessive slop.
 
Weird, I found some on AX80005, but came up one short.
As with everything, PITA :x Measured about 50 balls
to get the 6 mismatched ones back out of my bin and back
on the car. I will convert to Axial ends when I feel like tearing
the shocks back apart, but for now, no more sloppy balls!
 
10-4, that's what I harvested the 5 off of, but only 2 come on each tree.
It looks like AX80057 may even be a better option, coming with 4 short and 4 long bent ends per tree...?
 
Back to the shock spacers, I ran into some of these last night that I may slice down with a razor blade and swap out the nylon spacers...

Before switching out the rod ends, I would be interested to see the weight comparison of a bent rod end with the stainless ball vs the Axial with aluminum ball.

I know it might seem silly but just thinking what if the Axial with aluminum weighed the same?

There is such a small amount of weight savings in the aluminum ball that I could see a thicker rod end offsetting the weight loss and going thru the work for nothing.
 
This is awesome!! Best build thread on here in years, maybe ever.

Don't listen to Erik, run the 350 hubs in the front. They are the original hubs for thee axles anyway and work great. You should also get a set of the new style rear lower links. They have way less bend in them.

Yes, I may whip up a set of single bend lowers,
I have never had a set of radiused ones until these.
You watch, next we will be widening voodoos instead of
narrowing them..! :lmao:
 
Back to the bent shock rodends,
XR10, RC4WD, SCX10
No scale yet but I think the left two will be close.
My hands tell me the steel one is still heavier...
