Food/Cooking

spring and summer have come and gone, I did not once use the smoker. As much as I enjoyed the results from learning how to set it up and getting some delicious food off of the grill last year, I was just not motivated enough to wait 6 hours for a pork loin.
 
First attempt at homemade bread. This is an experiment to see if the wife has a gluten reaction to it. So far, homemade wheat flour-based stuff hasn't been giving her a reaction.

After several trials I got the process right, thanks to a lady on youtube. Most youtube videos about bread making give half knowledge or their explanation is not from a scientific prespective.

White flour bread. No preservatives and was way better than the ones I purchase at groccery shops.

Well... So far, the wife has had no reaction to the bread I made. The beef in the stew was also dredged in regular flour as well. I'm beginning to think the reaction is to preservatives used in certain foods. This is good news, as I enjoy making pasta and ravioli and had to stop when she was diagnosed as gluten intolerant.
 
lol I just wish that I could take better pics with my horribly sub-par quality camera. Making food look as delicious in images as it does in real life is surprisingly difficult lol!

After seeing those pics, I am trying to figure out if you are a professional photographer or a professional cook.
 
haha thank you! but it really IS hard to capture the real temptaion... at least until someone develops aroma-vision lol. Lighting and composition are such key elements when photographing food and whenever I've been so inclined to shoot a pic of something tasty, I just don't have the time to properly stage everything... again, lighting and composition primarily. Within a minute or so I'm saying "Screw this! I'm hungry and dinner's getting cold!" lol.
 
Yep, food is hard to capture for sure. The lighting in kitchens is angled and optimized (hopefully anyway) for food prep, not photography.

Made cheese-stuffed ravioli casserole last week... incl Asiago, Parmesan, Mozzarella, and Ricotta... was really good. This week was meatloaf...

 
With cold weather firmly in place, I decided it was time for some Beef Stew.

Top round beef... coated in flour, salt & pepper, and browned in the skillet. Then comes the russet potatoes, peas, sweet corn, tomato, barley, celery, carrots, yellow onion, green beans, bell pepper, garlic, parsley, dill, onion powder, seasoned salt, beef broth, and some other assorted seasonings.

I'll let this get crocked in the pot for 7+ hours then serve with toasty garlic bread and some asst cheeses on the side. Should be pretty good on this damp chilly night.
