Ext Cab Hilux Honcho w/ Steel Bed

Got Aaron's interior done, HILUX style.
Looks great Norm!!!"thumbsup"

Got some work done myself today, I cut and welded up some new rod to replace the parts that were bad in my steel bed, welded in some shock mounts, and welded in a couple tabs on the bed for Johnny joints. After I did some assembly I got to looking through my stash and found a set of OG bruiser leaf mounts and shackle mounts. Waddya know they fit great. I re-purposed my RCBro's front leaf mount as a shackle and attached a bent axial rod end and seriously improved my flex in the rear, now I have to cut off my Johnny joint tabs and grind them down. I Ziptied the bed in place for now so I can get an idea how its going to rest on the truck, next on my list is to braze in some hex nuts for skinning the bed and permantly attach the bed to the chassis"thumbsup"

Another update. made myself some new shocks, I used the stock axial shocks and replaced the OEM shafts with Mini LST shafts and cut down the shock body for a perfect fit. I also filled them with some 80wt oil to help keep the bounce down!

That is a really good idea Aaron I may have to save that one for a later date..
I spent weeks looking for different shocks that would work, mini-t rc18's Tamiya semi shocks, turned down tlt's..... I got to looking at the stockers and I don't know why but it hit me that they are threaded the same top to bottom, most have different threads for the cap, and blamo- then I started to find a shaft that would work, the mini lst shocks are the same diameter and the same c-clip syle mount so I gave it a try, the travel is perfect"thumbsup"

Hey thanks! Got check out the KC crew, they are half decent guys, watch out for the dezfan guy though, he's a tool!:flipoff: Lived there for 16 years myself...

Got a package from team3six today, the interior looks M'Fin sweet! Got to mocking everything up and started fitment. So far everything lines up very well, I have to trim the interior for my inner fenders, but Norm and I know that was going to have to be done. With the way the interior ounts I'm going to have to rework my ESC, mount and make a new place to hide all my lights and RX with the new bed, but thats later, for now on to Norms handy work all mounted up!

Why you NEVER throw anything away.....

Fuel cell and tool box!"thumbsup"

Found an old F-350 hi-lift RX box/fuel tank and the Surfboard mounts from the hilix hi-lift and made a sweet tool box for the bed that bolts in, then I reworked the Axial RX box as a fuel cell, trimmed off all the tabs and the lip off the bottom of the box and stuffed it between the rails, fits like a glove, the cage will hold it closed and axle just clears with a little relief in the bottom."thumbsup"

Ahhh, I see what you mean. well it was one of the hardest interiors to date.

Now if you raise the interior wall in the front. you may also have an issue with the side walls because it is bonded to them as well.

I think your best bet is to seperate the walls from the floor and add a lift in there, that way the interior stays intact and you dont destroy the dash area. It may take some work well a lot of work.

The other option is to raise the whole floor and add different seats in it. I actually think that would look better.

and the best option would be for you to cut a line right around the middle of between the floor and the top. this way you dont have to unglue anything. A nice metal ruler and a good exacto knofe and some scoring should do that clean.

I think I got it figured. I'll post up what I have to do to keep you up to date"thumbsup"

I raised the Interior as Per Norms suggestion, and started to mount some electronics, to see whats going to fit where. I also cut off my attempted rear Johnny joint mounts and and ground down the welds. I also mocked up my spare tire carrier.

In there I have a 2100 3s lipo, steering servo FXR, BEC and winch controller:shock: 10#'s shit in a 8# bag:ror:

You planning on putting a new bumber on this or are you going to stick with the cut down honcho bumper? The bed looks good, you think it will hold up to a wreckluse falling on now"thumbsup".

I plan on building a new lower profile bumper and sliders, but I don't know when I'll get to them. As far as the Wreckluse..... Yes and no. it wont break the same way because the body mounts are different and stronger, but until I reinforce the inside of the cab the A and B pillars are seriously weak and since I plan on Clear windows they will offer no support. I'm toying with the idea of an internal cage to support the roof and windows"thumbsup"

got some work done on this today, got the clear windows installed, raised the interior a bit to fit the cab better, and installed bracing in the cab to help keep it from crushing in a wreck

Under the knife again. It takes me the better part of an hour to remove the Bed and Cab to charge or replace the battery:shock: I can't have that, so off goes the hood! Got started, used the thread method and it came clean with minimal sanding. I built a brace to hold the front fenders together and to hold the grill on since the stock mounts are in the hood.

I got a Package in the Mail today from RC Bros, the new Updated Leaf mount kit. I must say this kit is much easier to install then the previous version, the material for the axle mounts is much beefier then before, no stripped screws! the Front hanger is much cleaner and Way easier to install then the previous H style"thumbsup"
I Used everything in the kit that he sent me except the heim joint shackles I made. I must say that the truck already flexes better, I did notice that already there is way less binding then before using a set of Chino Military wrapped springs and No weight"thumbsup"

Once I get the bed back on and finished it should flex even better.
