Evil's Rockshow SS Build...taking my berg to the next level.

My new BigRon's knuckle weights for the VP 8*knuckles came in.
In the pic, one is already loaded with tungsten slugs.

They go together easily. First, you have to put the mounting bracket on with the provided hardware:

If you notice, the VP knuckles come with screw holes tapped in them for mounting weights:

...and mounted:

The BigRon's weights came with hub spacers for the SLW's...just in case:

They just sit right on the hub, leaving enough of the center lip to still center the wheel.

The only down side is that I had to go to a wider hub than I used to use, and because one of the wheels or maybe a shaft was bent slightly, I needed to also use the spacer.

Installed along with the new round stock tie rod (thanks to Helhedded).

Looks kick ass Evil! I've been running the 8* for a little while now and Ronny's weight set up is simply awesome! Keeps the weight down low like my super set up. You are gonna love the upgrades!!

Thanks Mike. I can't wait to try it out on the rocks. It's been a while since I've gotten to comp. I'm about to go through withdrawal.

The rig is looking good, Carey! That weight setup is pretty cool.

FYI You can trim the nub off of the bottom of your servo horn for more clearance in there "thumbsup"

those tungsten weights are crazy! whats next, collapsed stars?

that does it for me, i am Berg shopping.....:flipoff:

Better get on it. :flipoff:

Thanks Ashton.

I was planning on shaving the bottom of the horn, but with the bend in your link, it fit perfectly. Granted, there isn't a single mm or wiggle room, but it's on there and there's no binding throughout the full travel.

looks good carey , just wait till you run them you will see a huge difference in the things you use to do and the things you can do now.... i worked with BIG RON on these and ran them for about a month with huge results before he released these for sale ... have fun with them and i will see you soon on the rocks "thumbsup"

I got out yesterday with Stick King, OvalMan, and ClassicGMJunkie. I set up some very technical and challenging courses at the dam. This crawler worked incredibly well. I was making climbs and sidehills, etc that used to be much harder if I could do them at all.

BTW, I'm running 2.5oz of lead stick weights (1 wrap) on my front wheels. To me, it seems like the best balance of weight. I still float nicely accross gaps, but there are some climbs that I couldn't get with no weight on the wheels.

truck is lookin great....!"thumbsup"

you said you clocked the cases, was that with upper links or did you redrill
and counter-sink inside the case....if you said i must have missed that:shock:

and what Alum. servo mount is that????

The cases were clocked, internally (drilled & countersunk), but that wouldn't work with the 86Jeep style steering on the CCD tubes.

The servo mount is the 86Jeep style steering option that came with the CCD tubes.

Cary, your rig is coming along nicely and looks great! ! I've been thinking of going to the VP 8* hubs, knuckles and those weights are very nice. Why are you running so much caster?

I got used to running alot of caster on my MRC, and found some real advantages when coming off steep hills or approaching rock faces, without much of any down sides.

When you get a chance. What is the eye to eye length on your tie-rod? Got everything coming to do this set-up and was gonna go ahead and fab up a tie rod. Got the same parts as you!
