Wanted to play around a little this winter, and came across a good deal on a couple maxstone 8's
I then proceded to turn the two rigs into a nice parts pile...
The body i'm using on this hasn't arrived yet, but it's a turtleback h1 33" x 14".
The first thing I notice is these axle's aren't as wide as i would like...
I don't like to use any kind of extenders on the hubs due to the increased load and tire swing, so i decided to take the longer axle tubes from the extra 2 axles and replace the short tubes on the axles i am using. as a bonus, this would give me dual servo mounts. It would end up being a !.5" stretch.
First step.. Strip the axles down...
The inner ends of the long and short axles are different, so i cut them both off and welded the long ends on the long axle shafts, and mounted the second servo mount to the axle. I also hac to swap the c's with the ones from the short tubes to get the angle right.
ended up with this...
Much Better!!!
I will add a longer crossbar for the steering when i can pick up som aluminum rod... Next step, repeat for the rear!
Also have to figure out the duals... after some thought, i decided to use 6-32 x.25 standoffs and screws in conjuntion with the beadlock rings.
And you end up with this... 28" wheelbase, 16 3/4 wide in front, 23 3/4 in the back
I threw a chassis on it and gave it a try, the servos in front weren't linked together yet but it steered ok for a trial run...
here's the youtube vid of it...

Still trying to come up with a good name for this project if anyone has any suggestions...
