Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith - Gearing Added!

Im not really a speed demon but I enjoy just a lil bit of wheel speed to get up some small inclines. Where I crawl all I really need is torque and no heat issues lol

Wraith:
I have a rco412 3100kv
hr trans with hardened gears
61t 32p spur
what is the recomended pinion to start ith this set-up?

Im not opposed to going with smaller spur.
id like a nice trail crawl with the speed when needed.
But if anyone can offer some starting points that be awesome!

Later questions will be best over drive front and under rear options.
Thanks

Well I dont have the time to go through and read all of this thread, but I am looking to swap my spur and pinion gears to 32p gears since I stripped out some teeth on mine after a few uses. I am still running the stock motor and 2s lipo. I was going to run a 84/16 48p but have read the 32p gears are stronger.

What size spur and pinion should I be looking for to be around the 84/16 setup. Looking for a little better crawling ratio but still have some speed when needed with stock motor and 2s lipo

With the 32 pitch a spur/pinion combo of 54/10 (5.40:1) will be close to your current ration (5.25:1), just a little bit lower than what you have now.

Harley i have burned up two motors in two days in a spawn which is geared 56/12 in 32p. Both a 20t and 27t axial on 3s. I've got a 15t dynamite laying on the shelf what would be a good setup gearing wise

56/12 is a bit tall. My Wraith ran very hot on 56/12 with a ROC 412 3100 kV on 3s. I dropped the pinion to 9 / 10 and it stays cool as a cucumber for hours on end.

Thanks
I wasn't sure if 61t had any benefits over smaller spur.
Then I actually thought 56/14 was a good starting point.
I have ROC 412 3100kv.

I ordered Ckrc Next Level 32 Pitch 54 Tooth Spur Gear 14 Tooth Pinion Kit , and 32 Pitch 60 tooth Spur 9 tooth Pinion Kit .
What kv / turn brushless motor would be a safe choice? I have upgraded HR steel trans gears, mip drivelines, and axial universals.
Thanks all

Harley,
Is their a motor/esc combo you recommend that is under $200? I spend most of my budget on Vanquish Products.
Thanks

I would recommend the holmes hobbies torquemaster br-xl if you like a brushed esc. It's justba little over $100 and is a very good comp proven esc. You should be able to pick up a esc and good motor for under $200.

From your previous question I assume you mean a brushless system. If I was you the route I would go would be to get a new ESC, like the Castle Mamba Max Pro first, as it will run brushed or brushless. Then pick up the motor when you get the extra scratch. I know it's hard to drop $300 on a system all at once sometimes. But this will let you step into it. If you need a motor for the mean time, grab a Holmes 13t Crawlmaster Sport for $35. It's a solid motor and will get the job done.

What's everyone's advice on the HH BL Trailmaster in the Wraith (using 3S)? Looking for something to go out on the forest trails, so a little bit of trail, lots of downed wood trees, steep banks, not much rocks, typical forest running. Trying to keep my cost down so if this motor (for me) will work as well as say the Tekin Pro4 or roc412, then I would prefer to go the HH route and put the extra money in other areas.

What gearing are people running for gearing with a crawlmaster 13t on 32p? I currently have the stock gearing from the wraith spawn (20/56). Is that too high? I'm assuming it is..

Never heard of a 920 tooth pinion gear , but yeah 920/56 sounds a little high.

I'd start around 10/56 and monitor motor temp.

I forgot to shift+9 :flipoff:

I got 3 packs through on 20/56 but its quite cold here right now (30* F) so I haven't had issues but once it warms up I'm assuming it will be a bit too much. It's in a 1.9 7ish lbs wraith running 3s.
