Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith - Gearing Added!

Today I changed from a brushless hpi vektor 4000 to a crawlmaster 13t. Geared 87/14 and underdrive gears in axles. Crawls like crazy. Still will spin the tires plenty fast to bounce over something and I can turn the tires so slow its crazy. Doesn't glitch or make weird noises, just crawls.

need some advise

Hi Harley and other Guys

need your help for some advise
so i already got the MMP and planning to use Holmes Hobbies TorqueMaster Pro 540 Brushed Electric Motor (27T) as the motor.
is it still able to say as good combo ? and what kind of gearing i must used with 32p,
or the mmp is over spec for the motor so i have to find other esc ?

thanks you very much for your kind advise

Regards

For gearing, a 56t spur and a 12t pinion will be a nice combo.

The ESC and motor choice are both good choices for the Wraith.

In comparison between the Tekin ROC412 3100kv and Holmes Hobbies Crawlmaster 13T, how close are they in smoothness? I plan on either running an Axial AE-2 or BRXL, or maybe just a Castle MMP that way I can run either brushed or brushless.

I have looked through this thread and either didn't see or over looked any gearing suggestions for a set-up similar to mine .... please help new to wraith ...

I am running this set-up:

Tekin FXR ESC/45T Hand Wound Motor Crawler System with 2s packs ... I have 48 pitch gears currently.

We trail truck and crawl with our rigs. Thanks for the help

Greg, I'd gear down to around 84 spur and 16t on the pinion.

Sorry I missed this one over the holidays.

I find the ROC to be very smooth, but it's hard to match a brushed combo. However the very small difference down low wouldn't hold me back from the benefits and power of the brushless system.

The Spawn rtr comes with 32P gears. Anyone have any idea what the ratio is? I think it may be 56/12 which would help the stock motor last a little longer correct?

I don't know what the ratio is either, but 56/12 would certainly be better than what axial had used before.

I'll have mine by the weekend hopefully and I'll post up what I find. It's odd that they don't list the ratio in the specs.

If you download the manual and check the spur and pinion gears you'll find they're 56/12 32 pitch. That's an actual gear ratio of 4.67:1 on the spur and pinion.

You can also find the spur and pinion sizes in the "Parts" section of the Spawn page.

The transmission ration appears to be a 2.60:1 if I counted the gear teeth right, I'll double check when my Wraith kit gets here. The stock (38/13) ring/pinion ratio is 2.92:1, or 2.57:1 with 36/14 gears and 3.31:1 with 43/13 gears. That should be an FRD (Final Drive Ration) of 35.45:1.

hi Harley

need some advice here,
so there is plan changing
here is final esc and motor that i got
tekin rs gen2 + holmes crawlmaster pro 16 T

HR 32p 56 T spur and 10t pinion is on the way, im using 3s battery with 2200mah and 40c,,

running in scx 10 with 36/13 in front ad 43/13 in rear axle
i'll need both crawl and some wheel speed

its that configuration ok to you ? or i do need change the spur or pinion size

i now i must tested by myself when all the part is arrived, but from your experience, is that setup will work for crawl and some wheel speed without overheating the motor

Thank you so much

That's not going to be crazy fast but should get the job done. However doing overdrive and underdrive is not going to make that a great trail truck anyway. That is a lot of bind on the drivetrain and will have an effect on your motor temps and lifespan.

Cool, thank you so much for the Advice Harley
