bilinvic's DMG IFS B1B Bomber Build

Man 'O man...that's a difficult choice jeepgod. Both were built as bouncers / crawlers and both do extremely good for the particular function they were intended. I'll have to say my favourite is the DMG IFS Bomber because it's rare and unique. Also, the way the whole rig breaks down for cleaning and maintenance is much better as well. The IFS will be better when I have the urge to open up the throttle for some air time, the machine is more stable. I do wish the turning radius was as good as the non-IFS Bomber though.

The Wraith transmission works perfectly for this machine. Although the trans doesn't really affect speed and motor temps directly, I was concerned that the Tekin PRO4 4000kV motor would run hot with 3S power because it's only rated for 2S. I have it geared pretty conservatively at 11T / 56T and anytime I have checked for heat after a good hard run, there's never been a time that I couldn't keep my finger on the motor for as long as I wanted.

....another test video is coming up soon.

Yesterday I had some time to kill before I picked my son up so I stopped in to my visit my local drug dealer, oops, I mean hobby shop!!!! I can never leave that place empty handed, this time I picked up a pair of Gmade 93mm XD Diaphragm shocks to try on the front end. I used Traxxas x-rings to build these so hopefully they won't leak.
I'm currently testing various spring combinations to see what I like best, the shocks feel really good with the "squish test" and I'll be using these instead of the Axial shocks for now. I used the three hole Delrin pistons with 30w shock fluid.

After the test session last night, I have removed the rear limit straps, I felt that I lost rear ground clearance compared to the 5 hour run on the weekend.

Most importantly though, I never once heard any gear crunching, between the front limit straps and the Incision VDI axles, that issue is gone. I removed one VDI after the test session and it still looked like new, no rubbing.

The video that is coming soon focuses on the tires for the most part. This is with the CI DD 5.5 Comp Cut w/ Soft outers. The difference from the 6.0 CI DD foams is substantial, the tires really gripped the rock surface and push/pulled the B1B Bomber up some crazy steep climbs."thumbsup"

Great video Bil! Thanks for sharing. These IFS Bombers aren't just pretty to look at, huh? They are absolute performers. My other rigs are so neglected right now.

I hear ya SCREAMER, I don't even want to drive my other machines either...just this one because it's so much fun.

Exactly, the IFS Bomber definitely has the cool factor going but it would mean nothing if it wasn't a total blast to drive.

Glad to hear you guys like the independent suspension. I notice the same exact turning radius issues that come with using the exo/yeti castor blocks, and knuckles, I came to the conclusion that although they help smoothen out the ride they really aren't meant to be used without the exo rear castor blocks if you intend on making sharp turns. I actually have plans to remove the lockersin my I/S wraith, and start using diffs, but that's more of a how I use it change.

Just ordered DD 5.5 Comp cut inner, soft outer for my FlatIrons, based on the video above

Are you still using your Pineapple mod to keep them in place with the wheels?

I bought 2 packs of closed cell tuning rings as I feel they might fit better, shall see.

Do you find the 5.5 soft outer to be perfect or a little too soft?

I'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed with the 5.5 Comp Cut foams ostewart. I didn't have to use my Pineapple mod with these foams with the Rock Racer wheels. I found the soft outer to be perfect for my liking. Let us know how the CI tuning rings work out.

I happen to have a set of 103mm Gmade XD Piggybacks in my stash of shocks and decided to swap the top caps from the 103 piggybacks to the 93mm diaphragm shock bodies (the shocks are identical except for the top caps/reservoirs). With the piggybacks, I can fine tune the shocks even more than the diaphragm shocks. I used 30wt shock fluid.

Looks better too. Thanxs for the idea SCREAMER! ;-)

Yeah that looks badass! Can't wait to get mine. Like you said, more tuning options are always good. I'm obsessed with finding the perfect suspension setup for any of my vehicles. A lot of it comes from my background in building dirtbikes as a hobby. Thanks for sharing the info on the Traxxas X ring mod. I detest a leaky shock.

Keep it comin bilinvic and screamer, hopefully between you too and another few weeks I'll know which setup I'll need for mine lol. Keep up the good work testing and tuning for the rest of us."thumbsup"

It's very difficult to measure without taking the chassis off...looks to be about 72mm long, eye to eye.

Thank you sir, just wanted to make sure it was at least 70mm so I could use a vp Ti link with revo ends.

How you likin that xpert servo?

Did you have to modify the yeti front drive shaft to work? I tried the yeti drive shaft on my IFS bomber build and seems a little to long and is causing binding.
