Big Red TTC, my 1:1 replica...sort of

Found a cool pile of boulders down by the river near my house this morning. Managed to get a little video with my phone. I love playing around on rocks like this, transitioning from one to another, much easier with a comp rig than with this beast. Missed it on the first attempt but got the second one. Very slippery river rock, good thing for wheel speed"thumbsup"

Oh yeah, have a 13.5 turn Tekin redline in now, sooooo much smoother than the pro4. Not sure if this is prudent video posting but oh well....

Thought I would post up some pics of the rig on some rocks I found when working out of town last week in Wenatchee Wa. Have Voodoo U4 tires on it, they seem to work ok.

Thought I would post up an update on this old rig. I have been working on it a bit getting it all fixed up from last years thrash testing.

The metal body was toast so I have Sir Metal Masher building a new one...or two. The truck took a nasty fall off a cliff and rear of the chassis took some big time damage. I straighten it out to where it should be good enough and sand blasted it a bit to get it ready for paint.

Finally got some new bushings for the 300 HDs thanks to Jeepindoug"thumbsup"

Rebuilt the tranny with a Locked up RC slipper eliminator, new spur and bearings, hot racing metal gears and new housing. Oh yeah and a shiny new motor too, really like it so far.

Even got some nice new tires, the smaller swampers since I sold my shaved up ones with my yeti.

One more thing too. The front axle was so worn down it had a big gap between the diff cover and the front lip so I sanded and filed it down and added in a little piece of 18 ga that extends to the diff cover, should be good to go for a couple more years I hope.

Great rig. Love a used rig and the history behind it. Makes if much more personal.

Damn good looking rig!!"thumbsup"

Thank you sir!

Thanks. Yeah I agree. Its expecially cool when some of the OG scalers are brought back to life with an update post years later.

Looking good Sam! i like the upgrades.

Do you have any shots of the body as it sits now? I'd love to see how mangled up it is!

Thanks. Sadly enough I don't. Wasn't thinking clearly I guess when I was tearing it all down that day, was more upset with all the chassis damage I guess. Should of took some pics. Well, with the next body I will be sure to do so, even at the bitter end of its usable life:mrgreen:

Yeah, didn't even get to the logs on the frame twister. I got all jacked up in pile of rocks and instead of winching it over I tried using lots of steering and throttle. A front tire grabbed and the top gear in tranny split in two:shock:. I then tried winching and then the 80lbs line busted so I was done. After it was over I went back and ran the same section and the logs no problem.

I ran the tank trap after MG200 who's car stopped in the water. I had a can of corrosion X HD and coated anything and everything just to be safe. The water was deep and it was my first time taking an RC in deep water on purpose. The HD stuff goes on like gorilla snot so it must be good:lmao:

Thanks, Im glad you like it. It couldn't of turned out any better and actually winning the TTC was something I never thought possible.

Here is the hardware. Also won concourse, still cant believe it:shock:

Who gets the videos of all of this?! I wanna see them!

Got some new metal for the rig courtesy of none other than Metal Masher"thumbsup".

Just in time for this weekends scale comp.

This rigs next TTC will have to wait till next year I guess.

Thanks! Yeah, I need to make sure you and Trenton are ready for Nationals:mrgreen:

Nice! I was wondering when you were gonna be back at a comp. I'm gonna bring my TTC entry to see how it does on the rocks.

I had plans on making the last 2 but stuff came up. I was hoping you would bring the your new creation. Before nats last year we went to Big Eddy and I brought this rig to test it on the rocks. You are my favorite this year to win it, no pressure:mrgreen:.

Nice! Are you going to keep it bare metal this time?

Thanks! I was thinking I would. I may clear coat it so it doesn't get water and mud stains like raw, soft aluminum can get.

Looking great with the new sheet metal Sam. Really bummed you won't be in CO. Hopefully we will meet up at the next one.

Im really bummed too. Its going to be a great time and a lot of new faces this year it looks like. Next year for sure.

Guido's rebuild is lookin good btw"thumbsup". You are going to love that motor you just picked up.

Thanks Sam. I think the 4 pole motors are just too hard on parts, especially in a heavy rig like Guido. I got tired of eating rear pinion bearings on every run. It jeapordized the reliability I need for TTC and G6.
I ran a 2 pole Trailmaster in Oklahoma a couple years ago and it was good. I think with the smaller tires the torque of the 2 pole will be just right!

Sam I've had several aluminum bodied rigs and one thing I found to work really well to strengthen them a bit was to back the body with Shoe Goo in the areas that see the most damage like corners and fenders. I also Shoe Goo'd in thin sheet styrene or aluminum in the door skins, hood and roof. It still dents real nice but not as badly and it is less likely to tear.

Just a thought if you want this one to last a few more comps then the last.

I think you are right. In this rig I cant tell the difference in low end power but in something heavier It would be more noticeable and like you said, hard on parts. Its not often you even need all of that power off the bottom anyway in these since they just get uncontrollable.

I was thinking about doing something like that this time around. I didn't though and the new body has been through its first comp. Due to some poor driving I was on my lid more than once I hate to say. I may try some of your tips on my new C3 build though"thumbsup"
