Let's try drifting - MST RMX 2.5 RTR GR86RB

After 4 decades in the RC vehicle hobby running mainly off-road vehicles, I had a desire to try RC drifting. I wanted something that was designed to be a drift car from the start, not a modified generic on-road chassis. I usually like to assemble kits but this time, I wanted a package complete with electronics that is set-up and ready to go. As a fan of scale realism, the MST RMX 2.5 RTR seemed like a good option. I chose the Toyota GR86 based body with PANDEM Rocket Bunny wide body kit. Although it is sold as "Ready-To-Run", the body still needs a bit of effort to add various detail parts and mount the body.

In the video below, I show you what is included in the box, take a close-up look at the chassis and show how to complete the body build and mount the body using the optional MST stealth magnetic kit.

I got into drifting a year or so ago - no idea why, there's literally no community where I am, and absolutely nowehere to drift lol I keep saying I'm going to clean out my garage, but there's a 1:1 project vehicle in there which can't go outside, and the rest of it is full of other "stuff".

Half the time I don't even drive my crawlers either though, so it's no surprise really

I know exactly what you mean. I have mostly off-road vehicles because there are not really any large open spaces with hard level surfaces locally for driving an on-road vehicle at any decent speed. There are no hobby shops within a large radius and certainly no RC clubs. But drifting is possible in a much more confined area and I thought to use my loft space with a wood floor. I need to lay down plastic sheeting first though as there are some surface imperfections.

I managed a skating rink for 15 years… oh how I miss the open floor (85x120ft). I have access to my gym but it is just not the same. I mostly have off-road as well but still have a dozen “road” cars that are driven in the neighborhood. Now that my son is getting older, I think there are a few more on-road cars in the near future added to the stable.

Park basketball courts are a nice open space for outside if you have one near by. I do not run carbon frames on asphalt or on outdoor smooth concrete, nothing wrong, just makes me cringe. Throwing In A small leaf blower in the mix to remove the loose stuff helps a lot.

Put together a 3Racing Sakura D5 RR Clone a little over a year ago. No 'Drift' stuff nearby, but places I can drift.
Just not done much of it. Might buy the new 3Racing D6.
Like you guys I have a fair bit of off road including the Promotos, and a DTX450, a few drag slases, etc.

I love to run, but get bored of running alone. Some locals around and a few clubs (mostly carpet racing) so there is stuff though it may not be close by.

Often I enjoy the build, more than the run, though If there were more time/people to run with, I'd do more of it.

For anyone Interested. RedCat has the RDS Builders kit for 100.00 right now. Thats a STEAL. The new 3Racing D6 is 120. it does have a bit more with it, but the RDS is a pretty good platform to newb off of. I may grab one at that price.

I'm nearly ready to start the RDS build. Probably get into some of it over the weekend.

Not sure what time I'll start. Probably around noonish etc. Possibly a bit later. Yet May start in the am. Kind of Depends on when the rest of my stuff gets here, which should be tomorrow so....
