Going Slideways - MST RMX Build

My ball diff was definitely open, I didn't like it much so I ordered a spool. Probably could have just tightened it up.

I have the spool upgrade as well. But since my ball diff must be locked tight, I’ll wait for it to break or something.

Thank you both for confirming that.

I am watching this build with great interest Sir.
Great interest.

Drift rc has been on my radar since 2006 while I was stationed in Japan.
Those who remember GROOVYDRIFT.com kniw whats up.

Digging the Camaro and I sympathise with you on the blurry vision thing. I have a bad habit of pulling small detail work over my lap, negating the entire purpose of a bench lol just the other night I lost a wheel nut for the kyosho pro but found it.
I turn 41 in june so I know your pain lol

Anyway, keeping an eye on this build... Bahaha totally unintentional pun!
I cant decide between an mst or yokomo yd2.
Time (and my wallet?) Will tell...

Cant wait to see paint on the Camaro!
The falken 69 on the cover of rc action was sweet.

OSRC,

I have my suspension setup the same way as you. However my front end lacks rebound. If I press my front end down, it doesnt necessary bounce right back up. When moving it does. But when its just sitting still. If I press the front down, it doesn't just jump right back up to ride height. I also feel like my front end lifts up pretty high.

Please take a look at this video. Since we both appear to have our cars setup the way MST said too. Im left wondering if I have a shock issue. Because I DO have the red MST upgraded shocks. But Im not sure if this is normal or not?

Still have to sort out the electrics, but since I had my new airbrush out, I decided to paint up the body. I was torn a bit on how to paint...I'm just not one for flashy paint schemes. I know that's a big thing with drift cars, but I like mine a bit more understated. So some PL Metallic Charcoal was laid down, and flat black on the hood.

When assembling the body, this odd cut on the front really stood out. Now I can't unsee it...really kinda ruins what it otherwise a spectacular body.

Still have to add the lights, but I absolutely love how it came out.....Really like the color, I'll be using it on a few more builds for sure.

I don't have mine fully loaded with battery and all the electronics yet, but the front end is seriously soft. I suspect it will do the same thing.... I'm not sure of that's a drift thing or not but if it handles well, I wouldn't worry about it much.

Thank you. That looks bad ass!

It seems it’s normal and helps shift weight to the rear on the gas. At least that’s what the drift track owner at super G told me. And another mst user told me too.

However! it appears I might have used the wrong shock shock end cap. When I got the all metal mst shocks, I thought I used the end caps that came off my plastic shocks.

When I looked at the exploited view it shows the “0” length end caps. But after double checking it seems I used the .25 extended length ones. Swapping back to the “0” length limited my front body lift in half.

It’s still very soft. And I have some firmer fronts coming. But I feel better knowing it appears to be normal. Mine was just exaggerated with the longer end caps on the shocks

Did it hurt you to make such a good looking Chevy? :ror:

Nothing better than 5 spoke wheels on old body styles.

(4 years later)

Over the summer I ripped out our pool and 30x35 surrounding deck. (Kind of why I haven't gotten much wheeling in.) In it's place went a 30x34 pole barn - combination garage and workshop. I have a few weeks until the electric guys finish up, so I can't move anything into it yet. Hmm...what to do with a 1000+ sq. ft. of smooth, unblemished concrete?

Well, 13 (!!) year ago I built a drift car for a scale4x4 buildoff. I had no idea what I was doing, but it was pretty fun!

After that video, I've never drifted again. I did pick up this RMX kit a few years back and built it up with a Vaterra body but never took it for a spin. (I have no idea why I do this, but I do it a lot.) Anyway, since I have all this covered, smooth concrete, how about trying some drifting?

So I took the RMX off the shelf, cleaned off a few years of dust and threw some lights at it. Made sure it was all working and took it for a spin. (pun intended) I have no clue about drifting at all, and it showed as I apparently put the gyro on the throttle channel. The first attempt was a mess - no throttle at all. Realizing something was goofy, I took it all apart, did some research and re-wired it all the correct way. Much better! I have very hard tires and the smooth floor is giving the gyro fits. But I'm in the ballpark now at least.

Sure looks good with the Vaterra body. I'm a Mustang guy, but I love this body. Vaterra nailed it. RIP Vaterra!

"Action shot" - lol. All of my pics were pretty blurry, this is the only one that came out ok.

So having been inspired, I dug around my stash and found a few more sets of drift tires. Looking around for some suitable conversions, I found my 1.9 MF01x rally collecting dust. Threw some drift tires on and it looks pretty decent!

And my HPI drag car was sitting around doing nothing since I don't drag race anymore. Full CVD's and a super low stance? Perfect drift conversion. Tossed a set of wheels on (from my 13 year old initial drifting adventure I might add) and I think it's a winner. I do need to do some work to convert it over to drift - the front diff is locked and overdriven, that has to be swapped to the back and I need to track down some electronics since I took out the drag motor but I think it'll do fine.

I have a third set of wheels, so I ordered a Sakura D5, another gyro and a new body to play with. Funny how a simple set of drift wheels becomes a full on project, but hell, why not?

sweet drift cars ... having the big room and smooth concrete will be fun to get you back in the hobby. That Vaterra body is nice ... they had nice products at the time shame did not continue development.

After all the years and you influencing me on things to buy and build, I'd like to think I have at least partially played a role in getting you back onto drift! :ROFLMAO:

The Vaterra Camaro is so sick looking. Definitely interested to see your D5. I really liked my D4 build although I did not know what I was doing and never even put a gyro in it to drift with it.

Looking forward to drifting! I am tempted to buy a Yokomo RD2.0 kit.

Ironic that you have the Mustang and I have the Camaro... a little role reversal going on here! :)

The D5 has a Foxbody coming though, so I haven't strayed too far.

So true! Although modern Mustangs look better than modern Camaros. Still not sure if I'm sold on the seventh gen though, especially the Dark Horse with the dark circle/bags under the eyes (headlights). My Sakura XI Sport has the Camaro body, but I also have a 2003 SN95 Mustang Cobra body in my garage that I bought years ago. This would look great on a new drift build...
