Yeti XL Aftermarket Thread

Well I can tell you this, the Hostile MX and MXT tires are hands down the best tires I've ever run off-road period. BUT, there's no way the YXL drivetrain will hold up to the abuse the added weight and torque these tires will put on them. As much as I'd love to say otherwise, I just can't see them being a realistic option. 1/5 scale Baja's and 5ive T's are in a class by themselves. Funny you mention the new Kraken Vekta 5 though, definitely a game changer for 5th scale... It would be nice though if a company like Hostile entered the "smaller" scale market because a tire like this would absolutely kill it! "thumbsup"

Yeah unfortunately Pro-Line hasn't made a taller 6.5-7.0" Badlands tire or I'd have it by now...apparently they also made a 5th scale Badlands as well. Either way, I'd like to see a pure dirt bike style tread for 8th scales that's bigger than the current Badlands.

Like I said, I'm gonna be selling off a lot of my current stuff to clear up the workshop. I may or may not end up with a 5th scale, but I have no clue whether they could hold up to what the YXL survived after some bad climbs. You'll see in the new video, the crashes on the big hill are pretty damn violent.

I've been eyeballing those for a wile too! So sweet! I've been thinking about cutting the krawlers with a similar pattern add Kevlar fishing line and test them out..

Maybe that's a better plan for now. I'll go home and bust out the silver sharpie and dremel.

I agree, the MX style tire would be an awesome tire to have available. Believe me, I've contemplated and even tried mocking up a set of those tires to my YXL. Then I'm reminded of the size difference between my Baja's drivetrain and the YXL. I love my 1/5 Baja's, they will most certainly take a lot more abuse then the YXL hands down! BUT, like any RC, will require upgrades and replacements. The difference is, upgrading 1/5 scale gets a lot more expensive. That's why (for me) taking a break and running 1/8 scale or crawlers lightens the blow to my wallet. But, I'm eyeing that new Kraken. I already own some of their products and am very happy with them. I'm looking forward to your new vids!

Thanks, vid is up but I will let it process. Got some beautiful slow-mo carnage rolling down that big hill, which is why I might not want to try a 5th scale on such a thing lol.

I think I'm gonna mock up a weight to stick behind the front bumper that I can easily remove and reattach for hill climb purposes.

Hey thanks for (you) climbing the hill for the shot!! Both times I watched it I was like ... that seems like a long hill ...just not that steep... WRONG steep as hell... Nice job"thumbsup"

DAMN! This video really shows how steep it really is! Awesome footage! I don't know that you'd be able to get up that hill even with a 1/5 scale! If I lived near you, I'd love to try though! You definitely need to have your weight distribution, power and traction balanced to tackle this one! "thumbsup"

Yeah it's kind of hard to capture it on camera, I'll take a picture looking down it next time. So far I think I'm going to call it "bounty hill" for obvious reasons. I wish I'd have filmed the one guy killing it on his dirt bike, it would have made for good reference. Otherwise, I have plans for the Krawlers when I go home tonight...

Never really took much interest in hill climbs with an RC, but damn you make it look like so much fun Sneetches! While the gnarly tumbles are quite entertaining, they are a little painful to watch too.

That hill looks like fun on an MTB too.

Ive got some running footage I'll get together... 11tooth pin, 2 speed, BHB HC,3s with 80c punch locked front and rear with the ecs on crawl mode 216% drag break...

Nice BHB...I'll be interested to see how that is. Also I just noticed your sig, do you mean "Prior Proper Preperation" lol?

Anyways, I did some dremeling on the Krawlers. I took a wide sanding disc and went and made a basic first pattern, which I really like and can already tell should be way better for the terrain I'm on. Otherwise, I'm debating whether to make the cuts in silver sharpie or not.

Got all 4 Krawlers done. The middle sipe was some last minute thing last night, but aside from that the lugs flex really well now and I contemplated cutting some of the centers out but I didn't (yet).

Looking forward to updates. Just picked up a used XL Kit version tonight off CL.

I need to go through the diffs and make sure everything is generally up to snuff. I have been out of RC for couple of years. And oh my lord is this Yeti XL BIIIG lol

I have come across BarharborBasher videos and will look into the pinion mod/issue

Thanks a lot! It's interesting watching your videos as you truly like to customize and think outside the box. Not just buy new parts and install them lol

I've already mad a laundry list of things to look into/buy lol. My first thought is the spring are weak and not sure they are the kit springs, they are dual spring setup and look black. They aren't white. Need to fill/rebuild shocks due to leaks and inspect diffs, adjust spur spacing and pick up new spur due to broken tooth.

Rcscrewz brand stainless screw kit throughout.

Well I couldn't help myself and busted out the scissors still time on the Krawlers...speaking of RTR tires and all. Unforunately we went from 60°F to 30°F for the weekend, all the way till Wednesday, which sucks ass. I was sitting there waiting for a battery to charge and figured fock it.
