Yeti XL Aftermarket Thread

So I did a lot of work on the XL tonight...

Replaced the bearings except on the diff outputs in the whole rear axle. Surprisingly I have almost no wear on the rear pinion/spur, but my pinion bearings were shot. Hit up my driveshafts with a wire brush and got the rear nice and smooth now.

Then I went ahead and simple greened it and wiped it all down. The Hot Racing wheel nuts almost look like knee-cappers. I tossed 4S and "broke in" the front diff gears for a bit, but then I realized I still didn't have 4WD...Yes I'm an idiot and thought the transmission output was fine, but in reality the screw was sheared off. I blame the Pitbulls :flipoff:.

Either way, new screws hopefully pretty soon and then hill climbs until something else breaks

GPM "Aluminium Spur Gear Cover Plate", DON'T BOTHER with this part (# YTL038GCP). It looks good at first inspection, but the front diff output cup rubs the housing and the rear slipper plate chews metal off the back side. It also appears the spur gear makes contact a bit too.. Since it's hard anodized, it's very easy to see where it's rubbing.

Are the Pit Bulls too agressive in your opinion?

I love my Pitbull's! Steve I wouldn't say they're too aggressive but I'd definitely say they dig a lot harder than the stock RTR's I was running. I've always had an issue with the BFG's being too loose off road, way too soft (foams included, IMO). I noticed an immediate difference with the Pitbull's.

if he's referring to his screw shaft... I'm thinking he's possibly tightening up the wheel nuts to tight... two forces breaks twice as easy... I think that was my problem... lightly torqued nuts and blue Loctite...or titanium drill bits cut into pins...(jump~it)"thumbsup"

Would you say it's worth going to the pitbulls right away, as opposed to stock Falken tires and CI foams?

I'm lost.... we went from thinking the transmission output being fine, to a screw being sheared off... which one?...to a screw shaft, I did not know the yeti had a screw shaft lol to new pitbulls being used on used parts.

I think the thingamajig was broke by the jigamakill and the pitbulls are taking the blame, simple as that. "thumbsup"

I can't give you a good opinion on that one since I've never run the Falken tires. But, I can say though the Pitbull's with CI foams are my best investment into my YXL. I run 6S only and I was looking for a firmer tire/foam combo to really dig off-road. These did the trick... And then some.

Hmm guess I'll go for it then. Trying to save myself the headache of having to unglue tires. I plan to only run 6s also.

Hahaa I figured you were right when you said screw shaft, I just never paid attention to what they are called, the name fits them too, as far as the ones going thru the upper links I've stripped two, they should re-name those ones screwed shafts, those lil dudes screw in tight all the way nothing that takes a 1.5 hex belongs on this rc.;-)

Ok kids, picture time. For reference, I'm joking when I use :flipoff: and I'm not really blaming the Pitbulls for the break.

This was my front pinion. You can see the huge chip on the right and there were a couple others like that. So while this wasn't actually why I lost 4WD, it definitely was time to go.

This was why I lost 4WD...I thought there was a screw in there when I looked but upon inspection, it was only the threaded portion and had sheared off the smooth section below it, therefore I didn't actually have anything locking the output:

Screw that I had to put on order, this was my rear one that I stole just to clarify what screw I'm talking about:

And here are the HR wheel nuts on. They stick out a bit and I have no clue where "screw shafts" came into play here :ror:

I agree with you on that one! So much so, I said screw it and just bought another set of stock wheels! But seriously, I think you'll agree after you run that combo... It was worth every penny! "thumbsup"

well the manual refers to them as screw shafts so I did...I've got green tags saying the same thing..the manual is wrong on the parts exploit on page 26 but the parts list on page 25 & 31 says SCREW SHAFT..wild man jumpIT was refurring to the set screw that crazy bastard lol"thumbsup"I've broken all of them...

haha yeah, I'm willing to invest in it. The videos I'd seen of wild ass tire ballooning is too much for me. While epic power is awesome, tires that barely work is no bueno.

I wonder why Axial hasn't come up for a proper solution for the pinion. They more than likely knew what power system would be used in the car, considering there's only a handful to choose from. Here I am saving up for parts that haven't broken yet.

I've came up with the solution they will I'm sure I've sent them my vids and a wordy rundown... Scott (Axial) has been great to deal with!!
THE PINION WILL BE THE LAST OF YOUR WORRIES AFTER MY MOD AMIGO "thumbsup"
My next mod is a dust/water shield for the front pinion housing !!
