What did you do to your TRX-4 today?

I agree with Jeff and only slow crawl rocks also.

Instead of cutting off the mid tread little nub, I took the dremel with cut off wheel and grooved all tread blocks.

I didn’t like how siping with a knife turned out so that’s why the cutoff wheel and grooving.

It effectively gave me more tread blocks.

We groove the tires on our jeeps and it makes a noticeable difference when aired down. Which is similar to soft foam or soft outer.

I noticed an improvement doing the same rock lines compared to stock tires.

Grooving them like that is a messy job and a dust mask wouldn’t hurt either.

Seeing your video makes me feel a little better about the squallering the servo makes. It’s just a characteristic to all of them.

Plus I know that the camera greatly amplifies noise. [emoji106]

That makes a great looking tire. Might have to try that before cutting the center little lugs out.

Like I said , it’s messy. A good task to do outside.

I would groove the tires, run them and then trim the little lugs.

I’d love to try a new take off set of stock trx6 wheels/tires.

Those are supposed to be really good.

Can’t justify the $$$$$$ for stock tires though.
 
I installed a Holmes Hobbies Torque Master Expert 550 21t & a Mamba Monster X. Set the motor timing to approximately 6 degrees and hooked up the white auxiliary wire from the esc to my trans servo with a servo splitter. Now high gear is forward, brake, reverse and low gear is forward, hill hold at neutral, instant reverse.

Also installed rock lights and rewired the body lights with contacts at the rear shock tower ( no more plugging/unplugging when I remove the body.

And installed a RC4WD remote light controller and mounted the remote into the little storage compartment on my DX5 Rugged.

Rc Review did a test with trx6 tires among other tires and they did pretty good for stock.

Aside from the tread I don’t know what is different besides 1.9 tire with 2.2 rim.

I just can’t bring myself to spend 100 bucks for stock take offs

Yeah when I was sitting outside grooving the Stockers, I was getting flashbacks of when I roasted the clutch in my truck many years ago. [emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787]

I love grooving tires. It’s very tedious and takes a while but rewarding. Plus you are increasing something’s capability that may have not been great to begin with. I’m talking 1:1 vehicles.

I saw those Pro-Line Grunts in the tire section and just saw a blank canvas. [emoji16] But I didn’t like the size or compound.

I wish there was a mini tire Groover Iron made for rc vehicles instead of using the dremel.

Isn't a tire groover a hot iron type tool? What about for a RC tire using a soldering iron with a small pointed tip?


It’s a hot iron that has a u-shaped element that “scoops” out the rubber when pushed through the lug. That element can be adjusted for depth.

What you are left with is a bunch of rubber plugs on the floor that is the scooped out rubber.

This is exactly what ours look like.

I’m sure you could do it with a soldering Iron. I think that would mess up the tip though because you are using the whole tip to remove the rubber. Maybe an old soldering iron.

Right now, the dremel and cut off wheel works well. Just noisy and messy.
 
I wonder if one of those wood burning kits would work better. You know for writing and drawing on wood? They have super fine tips...

My thought is, if you already have a dremel that would save you an extra expenditure.

Plus that width of the cutoff wheel seems about perfect for the groove

You got me thinking. Most craft stores sell a small inexpensive tool to burn out stencils for airbrushing. Made sure to put my finger in photo to show how small the tip is.
