ok, so after reading through all of this, is it pretty much safe to say that standard 1/8th scale buggy axle parts will work in TF axles? i am really interested in building up a set for a super, and i am just curious.

Yes. AE is exempt from the list and a couple others, but most will work. Ask if there is a particular brand you are considering and I or some one else will help out. All the cool people are building Force axled crawlers, you might as well be another one:)
 
cool. cause i was looking on ebay and it seems that inferno and OFNA hyper CVD's canbe had fairly inexpensively. i was just thinking about seeing if RCP would just be willing to sell just the axle housings. and i will just pick up the internal goodies....
 
CEN stuff

I just fit my CEN diff lock blocks to the antique Mad Force I got off eBay. So while I was at it, I installed the CEN GS043 hardened steel Universal Joint Ball ($14.99) on the MF pinion shaft so I could use the CEN GS040 (plastic) Telescopic Shaft ($18.99). It looks like I will be using a couple of GS043's on the MF transmission as well. The CEN Genesis slider shafts are about 5/8" in dia and seem pretty stout. I have a few CEN parts left over that I bought on the bay for an experimental build that never went anywhere so I didn't actually spend that much money. The CEN ring gears are 26t and the pinion is 9t - they are beefy but the ring gear is a bit too large to fit in the MF case. The CEN drive cups are also a tight fit in the MF housing. I do think all this could be made to work, though it seems overkill for the amount of work it would take.

I have some other parts... if you are curious about something that might work - let me know, I might have it.

Creep, you may have just made my day with these shafts. Do you have any pics of the shafts apart and maybe some measurements, total assembled calapsed and fully extended. These will cure the Moly pinion delema some people are having. Can't drill them for Revo shafts they're too hard.

The inner shaft has 6 thick splines.
Collapsed Length (pin to pin) = 4-1/8"

Someone has said savage X axels are a dirrect bolt on.
I'm getting ready to order some to try it.

I have installed the spiral Hotbodies diffs into the kit.
They are truggy diffs though, I wonder If I have to re-gear it or not?
 
Diffs between Diffs

Reading this thread has helped me so much. Finding Kyosho info has been so hard until now. I'm peicing together a single rear RC4WD alloy axle for a scaled twin nitro trophy truck 5:1. Need gears , diff, and bearings. It will be stretched using 2 long sides. Was thinking Boca Bearing and i need 3.3 to match my savage frontend.

My question is my front diff is standard straight cut gears. But whats the benefit of the helix? I'll be running alot of weight with alot of power on these.

The steel straight cut gears are strong,no question. They will take a good deal of abuse. The helical gears are stronger since they have more tooth contact between the ring and pinion. The helical gears are also more efficient and quieter. The efficiency might help a little in performance,but I really doubt you'd feel or see it. The noise,not really an issue with most people....specially if your running nitro.:lol:


I'm currently running Yotachumps spools and 3.3 helicals in my 14r. Super smooth and very strong."thumbsup"

Edit....

If you decide to run the helicals,make sure to shim them up."thumbsup" 9 times out of 10,without shims,you'll have to much backlash and will jump teeth when in a bind or hammer down from a dead stop. Shim them up so theres very little backlash and you'll be hard pressed to bust the diff gears.

How about those drive shafts Creeps got pictured. Can these be lengthend with 2 kits??
 
Dang, just discovered another dilema.

Is there a 13t pinion with a 6mm input shaft? I got my rc4wd punisher drive shaft 6mm to match my savage tranny output shaft before I realize stock kyosho is bigger.

Can Creeps drive shafts solve my problem. Are the drives sizes changable? And I can't tell if those are metal or plastic.
 
I believe the shafts Creep posted are metal. They are for 8mm yokes. Could you mod the tranny end to mate up with a 6mm output? Not sure,be cool if you could though.

I'm not sure if there is a 13t pinion thats 6mm and helical. May have to sacrifice one or the other to make it work. Depending on the thickness of the Punisher yokes,you might be able to get away with drilling them out to 8mm. Your on your own on that one:lol:

Why punishers anyway? Revo's are all you really need. They are 6mm but can easily take being drilled out to 8mm. All my Revo's have been drilled out and have yet to have a yoke fail.

Oops, sorry guys, I missed the last few posts. You can double up on the female ends of the drive shafts to lengthen them just like pede shafts. The shafts are plastic but the pieces that go on the pinions are hardened steel.
