Turtle's Modified XV-01

Hey took mine out today and had a blast...until I broke!

Where is a good place or the best place to get parts for this thing?

Thanks, in advance.

Thats a good question!

I have looked on tower and Horzion and it looks like most parts are still on order. Your best bet will probably be Ebay.

So what did you break and how?

I found eveything...Tamiya America Inc.

They have a ton of stuff for all their vehicles, free shipping over 75.00

The course we set up was a little rough (thru the woods) and that plastic part that captures the hinge pin snapped(JJ3). Lost the dogbone, those little cups (NN2)that fit on the hinge pin that snap into the part I broke and the spacers.

Do you think boiling any of the plastics be useful at all? I read, I believe in your other thread on the DF03, that the arms seem to be fairly brittle- same for the XV-01 or no?

I think they make those parts in aluminum. I'm pretty sure I saw them on ebay.

Im not sure, I have never boiled plastic parts before. I never had issues with any of the plastic parts on the DF03ra for the most part. Same goes for my TB-01, all the Tamiya rally cars I have had have been tanks.

Boiling Tamiya parts is not a good idea. Nylon or composite parts are no problem, but Tamiya uses an ABS blend on most of their kits, and the parts will warp if boiled. I've tried to dye several pieces and it never works out well.

The XV uses what feels like a slightly different composite from the DF01 for example, but still wouldn't recommend it. I imagine it wouldn't make much difference on such a short arm suspension anyway.

Just saw a XV-01T is in the works, can't find much information, but seems like some cool bodies should be coming out. "thumbsup"

Yeah, does the name Asterion mean anything to you USA or European folk? I wonder if it will be similar to the ol TA02T chassis'd F150 and S10. Just an XV01 with big wheels??

Not at all, I saw that and started google searching and couldn't find anything. All I know is it was listed under New release RC trucks on Tamiya USA.

Ah man that is disappointing if its going to look like that. That body needs to cover those tires up and they need to not recycle the hilux wheels onto the rig.

I don't mind the wheels/tyres and general design too much, but you're right, a re-mold wouldn't go astray. The thing I don't like is that big gaping hole looking in at the motor. Don't know a lot about Truck Racing apart from the Short Course Trucks - Is this thing looking 'scale'?

Since I shot Rodney's XV-01 and my Taco Time in the garage I decided to get some photos of my XV-01 too. I love the little garage.

The garage is sweet!

Are you ordering your Hoonigan decals from the website or having them custom made? I need some decals made for the RC club I sponsor at school but none of the local vinyl shops want to fool with it.

Thanks.

RPMJ custom orders them I think. I think there are vendors on RCC who make them. Might want to try some of your local guys, I have found the most random people end up having vinyl cutters.

That garage is sweet! Been wanting to make one for a long time, but been to lazy. Plus I don't know where to put it..

Still think this is the car to get? Been really thinking of getting a rally car setup here, debating between getting one of my unused touring cars converted, or starting fresh.

If you want 10th scale rally you will want this car, it is a great driving and handling car.

More work done to the XV01.

Got some parts in.

Front CVDs assembled, they come in 3 bags.
_MG_2194small.jpg

A arm mounts for the front. I have heard of a couple guys breaking the front block, so I went ahead and upgraded before there was trouble.
_MG_2198small.jpg

Yeah Racing knuckles with asiatees TLT hexs.
_MG_2199small.jpg

Slipper clutch in, the really good thing about it is it comes with a standard 48 pitch spur.

Its a interesting set up with the nut on the other side of the case.
_MG_2201small.jpg

I went ahead and made some mud flaps for the front end.
There was a little bit of debris getting in on the chassis and occasionally causing steering jams, this should help. Its a cut up 20" BMX tube.
