Tribute to my Dad's 79 F100 featuring Banzai

ARRRG!
Looks like I wont be driving the ferd tomorrow... after hours of fiddling with the body to drive it primered, I went to tackle the driveshaft and DOH!!!
Forgot about the odd-ball driveshaft input doohickey.

Found the adapter from LOCKED UP RC but my prepaid card is acting a fool and I cant check out. Vp makes one but its sold out everywhere. RPP came up bupkis also.

WHAT DO, ASCENDER FAM???

*ok Got my card to work so the LURC adapter will be arriving soon.
Still sucks I burned my whole night working on this without checking that first.
DOH!!!
gotta get the chebby and barrage tuned up first thing in the AM so that said, goodnight ascender fam!

Just waiting for a driveshaft adapter...

Got a BUNCH done on the chebby pretty quickly. No progress on the rear cage but I finally installed the windshield, hood/hinges, and grill.
I will post any pics I get at our friends place later in the chebby thread.
Oh and while grabbing the barrage off the peg board I snapped the bumper at the mounts.
Derp. I think I can fix it later.

Re: Tribute to my Dad's 79 F-150 RANGER LARIAT

Doing a great job. The lines are really nice on that body.

Mission accomplished. Pretty sure I got my buddy hooked. He is a 1:1 jeep guy and was actually pulling decent lines with the barrage 1st try! Said he needs to get a crawler and a go-fast.
Let his 8 year old daughter rip around with the barrage too and she liked it.
Pretty sure his wife will hate me now hahaha nah she might even enjoy it.

He took some great post-sunset pics with his pixel3. Just waiting for him to text them to me.

And thanks 'puter. I'm trying to keep the lines crisp while sanding. Still tons more to go but it keeps friggin raining here on weekends!

Its starting to really take shape!

I imagine you've sorted out the driveshaft adapter already but another source is GCM racing.

So what glue did you end up going with for the body panels?

Bob Smith industries (medium)! Stuff is great, even using it to fill some printing errors.
Bought the kicker/activator spray too. Really nice for tricky stuff you cant clamp (inside corners etc.). And it smells like cherries lol
Got some squadron white putty to try when I told the guys at the train store I didnt like the squadron green. Gonna need it for detailing the bed topper to look less like a leer and more like a period correct glasstite. I was going to use tamiya putty but the squadron stuff was right there so why not.
Just need the rain to stop so I can spray more primer.
If I dont get at least an honorable mention at the proline btf concourse, we know its rigged for sure lol

I saw gcm had a vid about adapting ascender driveshafts but didnt realize they make one?
*googles real quick*
Not listed on the usa site but the Canadian site has them for 18 dollars eh.
Well the LURC adapter is on its way so just waiting now.

***ohhhh!!! I just realized I need a 3d printed CB radio to mount on the bottom of the dash! Haha this interior is gonna be fun!

ah man that'd be awesome. spiral cord i think is easy enough and a mic could be done pretty easy with styrene.

if you sent me a little thing i wouldn't complain ;)

wow i just remembered the brand my dad had. it was an old Johnson.
*quickly googles an image...

**haha BLAMMO! this is what he had! i specifically remember the Johnson Viking logo and watching the needle jump on the level indicator.

and now i need to learn how to make a scale whip antenna...
***looks like i need some gee-tar string, heat shrink, and i will make a magnetic base using some doodads floating around in my pop's old rolltop (aka "greeblie heaven").

Yeah I have enough styrene scraps to whip that up easy peasy.
Much more to do before I get to that level of detail though.
I should be sanding right now but... Weekdays = adulting

Spiral cord is as easy as running servo wire tightly around a small diameter hex driver shaft. Gives it a nice spiral and coils it nicely.

now im trying to figure out how to make the seat look like this...
aside from sewing a custom cover with thin foam padding, i really don't know what else to do.

The best way is to go to a hobby shop that carries the doll house cloth. That is my plan on my scout. I need to find some super thin vinyl in blue and an ugly plaid material. I am planning on using it on the panels and the seats. Let the sowing commence! "thumbsup"

I mean, it IS Valentine's day - but do you have to broadcast the fact that you are "gettin' some" when some of us are settin' home all by our lonesome?

...I think you meant "sewing"!

:lmao:

Got the adapter from LURC!
now to find the motivation to go install it...
Still cant prime/sand. Just started raining again.
Well maybe I can sand... Maybe figure out body mounts...

Oh, ALLRIGHT ALREADY.

;)

Thanks Nate! Nice shirt. Its a bit older but still a great truck.
Thanks for the motivation! Ironically I just came in from the bench.

Not a good post today.
The LURC adapter went in without any drama whatsoever. GREAT PART! Very happy with it.
Then I opened the SSD yeti driveshaft and wiped off tje extra shipping oil. Very nice solid piece. For a yeti. A yeti driveshaft.

Follow?

This thing has oversized YETI pins. Dernit.
So I find a bit the same size as the pin and drill out the LURC adapter and the output shaft on the t case.
Easy day.
Pin still wont go through. Started one bit larger and stopped halfway through the LURC adapter. Too big. Bit of slop. Stopped and went inside the house. Pretty sure I need metric bits and I dont have the time or patience to find one right now. I might have a billion bits in my pops old roll top but already burned up my allotted truck time for the night. Kinda bummed. I hope I didnt ruin that brand new lurc adapter. Maybe I could shim it with aluminum foil or something. But... Just wish I had slowed down and measured the SSD drive pin.

Well. I will try to find metric bits next time I go out to the bench.
Sorry for the downer. You win some you lose some.

On the bright side, I have been sanding and priming the body like a mad man. Getting Pretty smooth! Nearly ready for wet sand and base coats!
Still need to build up the topper to look like a glasstite. Got all the stuff just no time. Honeydo list has been killing me lately lol

Irons in the fire! Ah that reminds me I still need my proline tickets! Where does the day go??!!
