Tribute to my Dad's 79 F100 featuring Banzai

My dudes...

welcome to ascender WB9.

need to tweak front out a bit more with link adjustments but thats pretty much it.
Also need to measure rear drive shaft length. I think... Maybe I can do without a 2 piece? We shall see.
Naturally, its raining here again. Cant finish priming/sanding. But I do realize the rest of the country is frozen. I can deal with not painting.

*ok, did some measuring.
Anybody know where I can get about 145mm driveshaft?

Damn, Shinchu...
That looks fantastic!
Wheels and tires are the perfect size, suiting the truck extremely well.
Can't wait to see your final detailing!

(You BETTER submit this rig to the reader's rides section of RCCarAction, letting them see just how it's done...)

RC Mart has the Yeti-length Xtra Speed 145-158mm steel driveshaft, and other Yeti driveshafts typically are 135-162mm length.

Thanks brother. I'm pretty happy with the new body. The wheels and tire sizes have been a challenge but the 1.55 wheels where a sure thing. So glad the losi cr12 wheels came out. Sure they aren't metal and aren't beadlocks but I will get those from rc4wd someday. I hope, before they sell out.

Yeah id be a liar if I said I didnt get a little emotional when I stood back and took that pic. I'm really happy with how its going, and its still going to get better! Cant wait to paint and build up the bed topper to look like a glasstite.
I got a bunch more to do but this right here is a huge milestone!

*thanks for the driveshaft info. Found the SSD scale driveshaft for yeti on RPP and it won't break the bank!

(You bet your ass I will submit to readers rides! Gonna win me some rcca swag haha)

Very nice Chris, who knew how far you would be able to go with it when you got it 2 years ago!!!! Oh wait, you probably did! "thumbsup"

Ernie

Thanks Ernie! Couldnt have gotten this far without you.
I didnt know it would get to this point, I kinda accepted the lexan until I found this 3D printed body. I have seen a couple others so I guess it would have happened one way or another?
But yes I'm very satisfied and even a bit humbled as well as this has gone.

Thanks everyone! You have ALL contributed with the encouragement and positivity. But it aint over yet! WAY more to come!

5 minutes of dremel work got the sliders top bars removed.
And you can really see how long this baby is now...

Body snuggles right on down on the 1.55s now...
Ahhh... Much better...

You nailed it dude! The proportions look bang-on, but ho-lee it looks long with the body off...lol

Re: Tribute to my Dad's 79 F-150 RANGER LARIAT

Looks great. I'm jealous of that body. Can't wait to see it painted.

That's looking really sharp! Proportions are definitely reality incarnate.

You'll have to call it the High Center Express, but you're used to dealing with that particular challenge already.

Anybody know where I can get about 145mm driveshaft?

There are steel shafts for Tamiya big rigs that can get really long.

Something like this Jazzrider shaft should work and if ends up being a little too long then it can be cut with a hack saw. I prefer to run center shafts closer to their minimum length than their maximum for the most spline engagement.

Thanks gents. I will keep those in mind if the yeti SSD shaft doesn't suit my needs.
*also glad I have options at this length. I was worried the rc4wd carrier bearing wouldnt line up, while also increasing pinion angle. So I guess longer = better? Lol

High center express hahaha I like it! And yes I'm very familiar lol
Actually just yesterday I was thinking about how often my dad got stuck in the 1:1. And almost always he would cuss himself and say he KNEW he shoulda got the F250 4x4 lol

Haha its too easy, the driveshaft yokes!
(See what I mean?!)

Anyway the driveshaft arrived from RPP yesterday.
Will try to install this weekend if I have time.
Just waiting on interior and thats pretty much the last of parts to order!
Its all fab and body prep from here on out!

Oh yeah thanks, those are nice and strong but I'm going for something a little more scale. The SSD shaft I got is a nice mix of both and I have other stuff from SSD and its not let me down so far.

Thanks though!
I hope to get it installed tonight as some family friends invited us to thier place on about an acre with some terrain and they actually requested I bring my tiny trucks!
Not sure how fast I can mount the primered ferd, but I can get the cab on the chebby ok and I plan on bringing the barrage so they can try too.
I will try my best to get pics!
