Summit RC Rock Crawlers fort wayne, IN

Thanks for the compliments guys. Ken,thanks for your help and input. I am going to try and keep the forward progress going, but I have a MT race to prep for this week,so I dont know how much I will able to get to work on the course this week. I started laying out some of the form base today, everthing is just stacked right now to make sure the over all terrain will flow well. When the final layout is what we wanr I will glue it all down so it came be hard coated.
Seth, you should stop over and check out the "over/under" addithion to the course.

I saw it today as well. The pics don't do it any justice. I really need to get my stuff back together. VTA & 12th scale has been a second priority to school. Da' Berg needs a little love time ASAP.

We are using a combonation of things. The bulk of the raised part is foam base coated with thinset(concrete basically), there is a section that is open for real rock or logs, but there is room to put real rock here and there on the course to increase the difficulty. There will actually be large pallets on the floor with other obsticles on them that will be able to be rearranged when we whant to change things up.The floor area will be more of an obsticle/trials type layout.A few people have been bring alot of stuff in for us to use, from rock, logs, stick bridges,etc... so we should have no trouble keeping it interesting for everyone."thumbsup"

I'm going to post some spy shots the Berg next week. It's coming together pretty good. I have a OTA system rattling around in my head. I need to start mocking it up to see how it looks. I'm still stuck between going sprung or drooped.

Anyone else wrenching on anything new?
Seth or Brian, Berg yet??

Ben

No burg on the agenda. If I do some thing without drive shafts it will be the Bully's for sure.

Joe has started to make great head way on the indoor course!!!!!!!!!!

"LOOKING GOOD GUY'S" Just keep the pic's coming ok

Hey, I was thinking of using a roll of black nylon ground covering stuff that you are to use under most rockgarden's to also help in freeforming some Area's that I got going on my layout... But, I see that it look's as thou you guy's are just hand packing that cemet mix in there, a lil bit at a time ...? So, I'm, am wondering if I should just save that roll of that stuff for maybe next summer for we all will be back out side working again..?!! Or what the heck...?!! Just go ahead with what I was thinking of doing with it, as I was going to use it as a base covering in some place's on my layout and then hand pack the cement mix over up of it too see what it turn's out like..? So, just let me know what you think of me even bothering to use it as I maybe should just save that roll for next summer for when I am going to work out a small rockgarden set up & rock crawling Area, over at my mother place with hope's she will like it anuff to let me use some of that "BIG-HUGE" back yard of her's that don't get used for any thing any more, And there's a nice spot over in one corner with a nice shade tree overhang That would surely make a good size rock crawling layout Area to practice on next summer...! As we do some time's call for an old time family cookout & "GTG" to which mean's so much to ol' mom. When all us kid's & and grand kid's do get together for once & ETC... Shit, I just want to crawl back there as it's so close to my home for me, And I don't much care about the rest of the family's happening's..! they can just watch me for as far as I care...! Since "I'm", the one who allway's get's stuck with the old who's going to mow the lawn this year for "Ol'Mom" job anyway's..I figure'd I may as well get some fun out of it ... Huh ... And I will do my best to make her up a pretty lil' rock garden also with a lil' pump power'ed water fall too..! If that's what it would take to gain 45'x60' of the back yard for Rock crawling = hell-yeah ..that's a done deal there mother dear...Lmao2.... scoot'er

Here are some spy shots of the new Berg. It's a rough mock up, but you should see the basic idea. It's closer to being done then the pictures show. Electronic layout is still a bit fuzzy, but I'm not looking for anything revolutionary. I expect them to fall right in. I may mout the dig switch on the rear axle.

The BTA should be pretty cool. I've been going nuts to get it to work. I ended up un-clocking the front axle to help make room for the servo. I think I had more trouble hooking the front linkage then hanging up on the front gear case, so I'll try it. That BTA link is hand crafted, a touch ugly, but should get 'e done.

I have a drooped shock on the one side. It was to help me finalize the BTA. I think I'll be going sprung initially. GC comes out being about 3 inches drooped. Sprung I should be able to go little higher if needed. I liked Kens geometry, but wanted a little more clearance, so I raised the bottom edge of the chassis .350. I also took some of the mouting holes out. I like to call it origional, but with strong Miller Time influences. He's STate champ, what do you do?

Notice the lower and upper links are mounted inboard with the screws being c'sunk. This makes a super slick chassis. All the links will be the patented MuMu metal (aka black nylon).

I'd like to drop the cash on some flashy wheels, but I think my home grown specials will have to do.

Flame on......

How much longer till the course is ready?? Getting the itch!

Shouldn't be too much longer. I have most of the course hard coated,I hope to get the rest of it covered this week. Once that is dry,I can recoat a couple of areas then we should be able to start using it.I will make sure there is a post up on here when its "officialy" ready.
Hey Ken,how long till you get back?

I should be hanging electronics tonight. I have to do up a body and figure out mounts. The beast should come to life tonight, and should be race ready in a week or so.

Ben

That will be just about perfect, the indoor course should be ready to run on by Friday. Thanks to Jeff Barney for all his help today, you really helped move things along nicely.
For the "official" notice, the Summit Rock indoor course will be ready to use on Friday November 7. I have a little touchup work to do on Monday, and we will be working on some of the floor/pallet obsticles too. I will see if I can get one of the guys to post some picture soon.

I saw it yesterday, and must say it's very impressive. I can't wait to get my truck on it. It'll be crazt enough to keep people sharp for next summer.

Truck update... BTA is officially scrapped. Shocks get in the way every which way. So I made some high knuckle thingys and should have no trouble with a OTA setup. Electronics have found place. The battery is going on the rear axle. Switch on the rear axle, tucked up tight on the motor. Speedo and reciever on the skid plate.
