Show-Me Scalers / Big Squid RC Sawback

My Sawback arrived yesterday and I'm already knee deep in the build. While the Phillips hardware is annoying, at least the screws are decent and aren't soft. I've also been very impressed with the fit and finish of how well things are going together. It reminds me very much of building a Tamiya (I mean that in a good way). Here are a couple pics from where I'm at. The axles and tranny are built, and now I'm working on getting the frame together.

I put some R35 Axial Trepadors on the truck and they are working great! I took it to a local beach and had a freaking blast crawling the area. This truck keeps on impressing me more and more.

I like the blue with the white wheels. And your video, I'm still laughing at the Sawback hopping in place at the end of the video. My trial run will be tomorrow.

Nice write up and I agree with what you said. An SCX10 it isn't, but more capable than the other leaf sprung truck that I had in my opinion. I've changed to the Trepadors also for the ground clearance. I have also ordered an after market skid plate for improved clearance as well.

I had it hooked to my sled for some pulling and the drivetrain held together fine!

I've been driving my Sawback now for the last month and the truck has been a blast! The truck is so much fun to go trailing with due to the realistic suspension. If I'm going to be doing some hardcore crawling over extreme terrain then I use my SCX10. If I'm going to be going out trailing for the day with stuff that isn't so extreme I take the Sawback. Having both trucks is a win/win.

I changed my driver to a "Hunter Dan" (sold by Cabelas) and after chopping his feet off he fits perfect! I also switched my tires up to proline tsl's (the smaller ones) and they hook up great. I love this thing.
