Scott's Sucker Punch Sporty with AXR10 Axles

but if the bec is connected to anything, on the output end, the castle link cant power the bec and whatever it is connected too...

hope i explained that correct......

I'm well aware.

I've got three unconnected BECs sitting here. Two connect and the third one powers on but doesn't connect.

Womp, I'd recommend not hooking up a battery directly to the BEC to the castle link. Toasted the castle link.

sizzle sizzle goes the castlizzle.

I like the colors! I never should have got rid of my sporty either.. really about to just let go of all my scale stuff and build 2 pros and 1 sporty.

And I'm ready for Saturday:

I may move the BEC in the future but that's the best place I could get it to fit without starting to bind the links.

And RTR weight:

Looks like I have a few ounces to shave to get under 4 lbs.

Areas I've identified as possible areas to shave weight:
-Ditch the beadlocks (should save me around 1.6 oz)
-Aluminum pivot balls
-Ditch the XR mod rear axle and use a SCX10 rear axle and flip the rear wheels
-Different transmission, Bulldog transmission looks pretty appealing due to it using Berg gears

Hate when that happens.........

i was just making sure you knew that......;-)

Yeah, it sucked. But I have an extra one!

Not the only thing I sizzled last night. Was trouble shooting my RX and smoked a battery and had the red lead come off. Was really hot, threw it in a lipo sack and put it in the ammo box.

Thanks! I'm really pleased with the colors!

Sporty's and Pro's are tons of fun! But why do you need two Pros? lol

Weight loss:
decase all electronics including bec. Make all wires minimum length
aluminum balls for rod ends
aluminum fasteners
remove 3 of the screws from each bead lock. I've run mine this way for years. Once in a blue moon you may pull a bead but only barely and will not effect your run.
get 1/8th inch uppers
plastic chubs
plastic rear lockouts
Creeper Bob rear titanium axles

That's about all I can think of at the moment but you have assembled a very sweet rig here!"thumbsup" Can't wait to see how you drive it next month!

xr10 pro im working on. and berg pro for fun and different concepts.

I usually take an axe to bad lipos in the driveway. or run a really long lead out from a charger and charge it on nimh setting. :lmao:

I would ditch the xr mod rear and go with a classicut featherlight rear axle or similar style. definitely ti axles and delrin lockouts. chocker collars maybe? 5 bucks a piece... strong.

I have the bulldog trans and I would think its tons lighter and no exposed spur or pinion with lightened berg gears. awesome trans in my hands "thumbsup"

id pick one up with gears included though. unless you have extra gears. I already made that mistake not having extras.

and bec wont fit under servo? little axle shaving action?

Never thought to yank out three of the beadlock screws. That coupled with some aluminum hardware there would shave off a considerable amount.

I blame my link guy for not making me 1/8th inch uppers lol

I don't think I'll ever do plastic c-hubs after shearing one at the scaler comp last Sunday.

I definitely think the trans and the rear axle are the places I can shed significant weight.

Gotcha

Yeah, I plan on ditching it down the road, it's just what I had. Tried to keep initial costs on this build down due to going over budget on scalers :lmao:

Those classicut featherlights look interesting, might compare the weight of those to a rear scx10 I have.

I'd probably get it with the gears already installed even though I already have gears.

The BEC probably would fit under the servo, it was late and I just kind of slapped it on there to get it on and ready to go.

Picture of the sucker punches hanging out at the comp:

Truck worked really well, I didn't drive that well in sporty though. Had three DNFs, one due to pointing out and two due to time.
Courses were pretty tough. I think we had a 33% completion rate for the courses.

Body got a little scratched up, spent too much time on my lid lol
BEC definitely needs to move, I noticed a few nicks in the shrink wrap when I took it out Sunday.

Also, took it out testing to a local spot Sunday:

I took some video Sunday as well. I'll try and upload that tonight.

Things I plan on doing before next comp:
-Move the BEC
-Play with the links a little bit to try and get the compressed WB a little longer
-possibly remount the electronics
-repair sidewall (put a little hole in the sidewall of one of the front tires Sunday)

Truck came out well, Scott. Only thing missing from that photo was a red one...

Firing your link guy sounds like the best thing too do. Maybe he was looking at the repeat customer service aspect. Lol. Truck worked well. As with all new builds tuning is necessary.

I really like mine - I plan on having them in all my comp stuff eventually.

"thumbs" I've heard nothing but good things about them and anything that take berg gears is good in my eyes.

Lol, why would I fire him? I might need 1/8" uppers :flip off:
Haha

Thanks! I was pretty pleased with how it worked, but yes it does need some tuning.

Small update.

First tried to move the BEC to a better spot, I tried under the destroy plate:

It kind of fit, but it wasn't really cooperating and I got annoyed and scrapped that idea.

Plan B, zip tie it to the upper link:

Much better!

Then I moved the front uppers up one hole:

Sadly that's the only picture I took.

I also took a tiny bit of oil out of the front right shock as it wasn't compressing completely.

Will test it today and then maybe make more changes before the comp on Saturday. Hoping to actually finish a course this time!

Drove a pack through it yesterday after some super practice time.

Truck seems really stable and balanced. However, the shocks seem wayyyyy too stiff. I'm thinking I need to not only drop the oil weight but get some lighter springs. Ordered up some RCbro springs and then might track down some other Losi springs LOSB1447 I think.

Ya should have said something yesterday you know
I have both RCB & MRC's springs with me U could have tried Em before U ordered some :lmao:

Only pic of it from the comp:

Ironically this is right before I hit both gates and pointed out.

Sporty scores from last comp:

The DNF really hurt me in terms of scores. Ben (Toyzuki) also drove it and managed a 2nd place finish. I think there might be some more driver work than truck work.

RCBro springs arrived as well, just haven't had time to put those on and see how they feel.
