Rigs of Rods

Rigs of Rods (also known as RoR), is an Open Source truck (crawler), car, airplane and boat simulator. You can drive, fly or sail in total freedom in an open environment. What makes RoR different to most simulators is its unique soft-body physics: vehicles chassis and wheels are simulated in real-time as flexible objects, giving the simulation an extremely accurate behavior, while allowing the vehicles to be simply specified by their structural composition, as a network of interconnected nodes (forming the chassis and the wheels). Crashing into walls or terrain can permanently deform a vehicle in a realistic manner. In addition to its unique soft-body physics, RoR also features an advanced flight model based on blade element theory, allowing the accurate simulation of any airplane, base on their physical dimensions and wing airfoils. It also features an accurate buoyancy model based on elemental pressure gradients, enabling boats with complex hulls to move realistically in the swell.
Rigs of Rods is an amateur game developped by Pierre-Michel Ricordel, aka Pricorde, and is a one man hobby development, with a $0 budget, that has started more than two years ago and is still continuing. Recently a second developer, Thomas, has joined the "team". He is also the donator and caretaker of the web sites. A growing community has build up since some time and has contributed many vehicles to the game.

Rigs of Rods currently has 2100 mods available. With new mods added every few days.

Rigs of Rods is by far the best crawling simulator on the market today. And ABSOLUTELY FREE. Thanks to open source.

Rigs of Rods can be downloaded at
http://download.rigsofrods.com/ For a stable release client. or
http://forum.rigsofrods.com/index.php?topic=27154.0;topicseen for the latest beta client.

The vehicles availibe for download can be viewed here.

The newest beta client features new vehicle and Tire deformation , fluid physics, and Lockers.

Here are some sample Gameplay videos as well.

I wish that the embeded videos would work. The first video really shows what this game can do for crawling.

This game has been known about for a while on here, there's an old thread about it buried in this section somewheres lol.

I figured someone may have posted a while ago. However this game is really starting to be geared towards crawling/mudding. With lots of new additional features Im sure it is leaps and bounds beyond what was posted.

I want to know were it says if you see frame rails it is not a truggy.

WIKIPEDIA
A truggy or truggie is a specialized off-road vehicle. Truggy is a portmanteau of the words truck and buggy. The truggy nomenclature is derived from using a truck frame as the basis for the vehicle, whereas a "buggy" would have started from the chassis of a Volkswagen Bug.

Truggies are most commonly built for recreational purposes. Most are homebuilt, though there are some companies that specialize in building them for customers. Truggies might be built from scratch, or they might be heavily-modified street vehicles that have been altered to the point that they barely resemble their original form. A truggy generally has several defining features:

1. A full roll cage, built off a factory style frame.
2. Large off-road tires.
3. Long-travel suspension, featuring a solid axle in the rear and independent suspension in the front.
4. Low gearing usually featuring dual transfer cases or aftermarket gears in a single case.
5. Locking differentials

Many truggies are equipped with powerful engines and winches. Some are street legal, though many of them are built and used for off-road use only.

But who knows I just thought it was a truggy, and they guy who made it named it that. not a big deal to me. Looks sweet

All i can manage to do is slowly drive a tow truck. How do you guys get the crawlers?

Depending on what version you have it may be different. Im assuming that you have the Stable release client.

Step 1.)
Go to http://repository.rigsofrods.com/

Step 2.)
Search for something to drive
(tips) Squishy, Box5, lifter, fat alfie = make good crawlers search their names

Step 3.)
Download the .zip files somewhere you can find it.

Step 4.)
Either move or copy the .zip to
C:\Users\USER NAME\Documents\Rigs of Rods\packs = Win vista+7
My documents\rigs of rods\packs Win XP

Step 5.) Launch ROR

IF you need anymore help let me know.

Also you might want some decent terrains.... The best crawling map is
http://repository.rigsofrods.com/files/mirror/geoselect/RockCrawlHeaven.zip

Maps are installed in the same folder as vehicles. Besure to drag the entire Zip folder.

Now it gives Error 3.

D3D9RenderWindow::createD3DResources

This is a random error that occurs for no apparently reason at the moment.
Error 3

Error 3 seems to appear on very big maps. The problem is about the hardware, which can't load the whole map, so if you want to drive through a invisible virtual border on the map the game crashes.
Because of this, the only solution is buying better hardware. Such as a powerful Motherboard with a better CPU (Multi-Core or Hyperthreading enabled), also with this get a top-of-the-line PCI-E Graphics Card. This should prevent this error from happening again.
Also, switching your rendering subsystem to OpenGL has been reported to fix this problem, but it also produces lower frame rates.

This is done in RORCONFIG on the second tab.

Updating your Direct X might solve this problem along with firmware/forceware for your graphics card.

Yes there is an older version for mac that is out. It is version .35. The current release is v 0.36.2. So you will be a little out of date for certain things. And lots of the new crawlers wont work. However they have work arounds, but you have to jump through hoops to get them in game.
