You could run a 3300 on 3s and 4s for racing too. Either way sounds like a good plan. I would lean towards the faster moter, it will be more flexible and give you some perspective on choices.

That's what I was thinking the more I thought about it..

Any reason not to use the mamba micro x with the stubby on a lighter scx?

If not when a combo order for a mamba and a 3300 comes through don't worry, it's me and I don't intend to use en together :mrgreen: I'm not against getting another BLE, I already have two, but I'm wondering if it's overkill?

The micro seems to be plenty for the scx platform. Even with a 3300kv motor, although officially I only recommend the 2200 because it is no hassle setup and use. The 3300 would need an eye on esc heat all the time until the performance was known. Each driver and terrain would be different enough to require it.

That being said, my practically stock scx runs a 3300 and micro X. No heat issues at all on 3s and stock gearing.

Good to know! Sounds like the BLE/ 3300 540 for the hackalac and a mamba micro x / 2200 540s for the scx is the ticket then.

Not sure why I didn't notice, the 3300 is only a stubby, it's 3500 on a standard. Same still applies ?

For the micro, only stubbies would be recommended. But again, it depends so much on gearing and terrain that a proper setup would have no issues with the micro and 3500kv 540. Light rig, small tires, plenty of geardown, watch the heat. The key is to keep sustained loads off the micro, so no hill climbs or racing unless you already know the system heat for the situation.



It boils down to the thermal mass of the little ESC. It is quick to overheat because of the size. But it is still plenty of power for the average SCX10, so as long as the gearing and top speed of the vehicle are slow enough it doesn't really matter what length the motor is. It just puts the ESC at more risk having the motor oversized. It is possible to get in a situation where the big motor just tries to pull too many amps.

I have the 2200 stubby and a BLE here now. Just ordered a micro and a 3500 540.

The plan is to use the 2200s with the mamba micro and the 3500 with the BLE.

I'm just thinking of the BLE and 3500xl in my yeti and thinking that's waaaaay overkill. But I'm probably underestimating gearing and settings. Plus that XL is a whole different animal.

The short answer is yes and no, as startup speed is the same for both- but the % motor rpm change per % throttle position change is greater for higher kv.

The same speed will take more throttle feathering with a faster motor, so if you don't change gearing then you will lose resolution in relation of trigger to wheelspeed. But minimum startup speed is still there, it just takes finesse and skill to utilize a wider wheelspeed range.

Alternatively, gear down the 3300 so your wheelspeed is like a 2200. In this scenario, you take back the trigger to wheelspeed resolution and also improve minimum startup speed at the tire. It's the equivalent of volt up gear down.

The Crawl Space just sold me on buying one of these 540 3500kv motors. I have a 35t torque master in my other wraith, I'm excited to experience this difference (i love my brushed motor). Just wanted to share that I also buy stuff from HH ( and make long trips to support local hobby store) because of the community presence and interaction. Please keep it up!

I have a quick question for you sir. I am building a SCX10 that seems to be gaining weight by the minute. Vanquish Rockjock axles, supporting equipment, heavy beadlocks, scale accessories, interior, winch, lights and so forth. I have been using an AE-5 and Tekin HD 35t motor with 13/80 gearing. On 3s and 7lbs it has a top speed of a brisk walk whatever that equates too which I am fine with, but I know the Tekin is pretty worn out and the low speed crawling resolution is not so good now. Compared to my Bomber running a MMP/Pro4 3300 and 2 speed it is terrible....

So I would like to put your BLE with a brushless in the SCX10. Right now it is sitting at 9lbs and i expect to be around 9.5 once done so given that would the 3300 stubby work or would the 3500 normal 540 suite it better due to portliness? I have an 87t that I could use instead of the 80t, and I have a whole slew of different pinons to choose from. Either way I would need to do waterproof, I do not go looking for mud pits or lakes but we have a place in East Texas and when I have to cross a stream I do.

Just checking to see what you would recommend as I could care less about the $10 difference and i think the xl would be way overkill. Also wanted to see when the 3500 might be back in stock if needed. Thanks!

So, I plugged in a 3s lipo to my bomber outfitted with a puller pro 3500kv XL, instantly I went whoa! The only issue I have is: how do I get the damn burnt rubber marks out of the tile floor in the basement...

ADVICE PLEASE!!!!

I'm debating between the Puller Pro BL 540 XL 3500kv on 3s or Puller Pro BL 540 XL 2100kv on 4s? Power will be provided by Mamba Monster X.

The rig is a Yeti with all upgraded drivetrain, underdrive gears and Axial 2 speed. Yeti weighs just under 9 lbs with 3s battery.

Stock ESC keeps thermalling after 10 minutes of crawling and just noticed that the rotor has quite a bit of play and seems very loose in the motor. That is forcing this upgrade.

I really like going slow and crawl but I would like to be competitive if I can every make it to a U4rc track. I'd like my cake and to eat it too.

Obviously running 4s is more money but if the benefits are there I'm all for it.

540 standard would be my first choice. We will have stock again of 3500kv in a few weeks.

Thanks for your advice. The standard 540 will be enough matched up to MMX? I was/am just worried I'll be wishing I had gotten the bigger motor for more power. But if you say so I'll give it a try. I'll keep checking the website so see when it's in stock.

So what kind of truck needs the 2100kv xl?

The XL was developed to put in a max power yeti. Just brute power of the 1/8th scale realm. The 540 standard is 550 power tucked inside, and with supurb startup. You won't lack for power or smothness.

Most team guys that are racing u4 are running and winning with the 540. The 3500 can run 4s, the 4500kv can run 3s. Just have to watch heat.

So right now in my Mattzilla toy truggy chassis I am building up I have the 2200kv stubby on 2s connected to a rc4wd R4 trans. GCM Maried Tcase and motor mount
I from swapped from a 14t that came with to 10t pinion, it is better, but seems like it could use more low end.
Would I benefit going to a stanard 2200kv or goto a 3300kv?
Has to stay on 2s.
Would I get more torque low end?

If you just need more torque, a longer motor or higher KV will give you that. I would choose a longer motor first. I assume that you don't have a lot of geardown. Or it could be your battery being tired and need of replacement.
