Project Landcruiser HJ75

You bet. As long I am putting in this much work, I might as well add a gas cap. I am really channeling my inner Headquake on this, except that I won't be using any wood.

I was just saying that I think the other guy meant gas cap. Not has cap. :).

Diggin the build so far man.

been wanting a DIFFERENT yota to build!
grabbed one of these off the bay just yesterday!

sweet truck!

Thatnks. I am almost finished with the bodywork; should be laying down the primer soon. I decided to try and make it look as close as possible like the 78 series, so I ripped out the old grill and built a new one, and modified the light surrounds. Also added the roof ridges you can see in some of the pics of the 1:1 trucks. Should have more pics tomorrow or Monday.

I hope you enjoy your fleabay purchase. Can't wait to see what you do with yours.

Thanks. I say, just go get that truck and start hacking away at it. "thumbsup" One thing I have learned in working with these trucks is that most mistakes can be fixed, so just get at it and see what happens. If you don't like how it's going, tear off the bad parts and start fresh.

Oh and Plastruct Bondene is, by far, the best "glue" for joining styrene to other plastics. That stuff kicks arse. "thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup"

Anywho, time for the update. I have ripped out the old grill so that I could build up a new one based on the real-world Landcruiser 78, the last model that has the signal lights like this body has. I think it is mostly there, but I need to do a slightly better job matching the two sides up. Check out the 1:1 against the 1:10.

I have also enclosed the signal light "buckets" in preparation for adding lights. And speaking of lights, the grill will be fitted with, like so many other trucks on RCC, a set of Axial light buckets and lenses.

Nice work with the styrene! What are u going to use for lenses on the corner lights?

Thanks. I'll be using the large Axial light buckets. I'm going to prime them and paint them chromme and they should fit in the grill if I ream out the holes a bit. When it's done it should look similar to the size of the 1:1.

It just occurred to me that you asked anout the corner lights. Honestly, I have no idea what I am going to use. Maybe I'll take a page out of Headquake's book and use some sort of clear plastic packaging material. It doesn't have to be too burly, the bumper will protect it from just about anything that I run into.

Updates!?!
Been at an impass with my build. Was gonna go for class 1 but all the axles
I look at are just too wide....

No updates at the moment. I have been super busy with freelance work and just haven't had the time to get back into it. The bodywork is pretty much finished (I added the roof lines), but it needs lots of sanding. It was raining a couple of weeks ago when I wanted to put the first coat of primer on it. Now that it's not raining things have picked up again and it may be a week or two before I'll be able to get to it.

Hey mate this is an awsome build. i hope to use your build for some inspiration for a future build. is very nice work. "thumbsup"

Well, I am bringing this thing back from the dead. After letting it sit for a while and coming back to it, I realized that it is too top (and back) heavy to make a competitive Class 2 rig. As a result, major changes will be made to the back. This time it'll be more truggy and less expedition truck. I have a Class 1 doublecab build that'll be built more in that direction. More updates coming soon.

Tappin' it.
