Project Landcruiser HJ75

looking really really good my man!!

looks like your having fun with your new skill haha.!

once i tried to braze and saw how easy it was,... (after thinking for sooo long that i could never do that kinda stuff)... I was very happy with it and was hooked for awhile!! now i weld and its even better!!

really tho, this is one nice YOTA"thumbsup"

Yeah, it's a lot of fun. I shied away from it because it seemed like I would need a $100+ torch to make it happen. But once I figured out that all I needed was a cheap screw-on mapp torch it was game on. The hard part now is getting everything aligned and set to braze. All my welding magnets are scorched from being too close to a joint. It may be a while before I make the jump to welding, though. I am not quite ready to drop the kind of coin required to join that club.

Very cool and unique build.

Welding is definitely faster but brazing has cleaner joints.

A combo of a small tack weld in an inconspicuous area to hold parts together than brazed would be ideal.;-)

I added a little bit of tube to the bed. I think I am going to skip adding a spare tire mount for right now. With the plate I added to the back 'bumper' I have the possibility to add a rear winch and I don't want to eliminate that option just yet. So the spare tire will probably sit flat on the 'flat bed' when it's all said and done.

Almost finished with tubing. Going to be adding a piano wire 'net floor' to the roof rack and tabs for mounting lights. "thumbsup"

A couple more pics

After the BS ending to the Spurs game I went out to the garage and test fit the axles.

:flipoff: Danny Crawford

Anyway, the truck sits a little high but I don't think there is much I can do about it at this point. If I had to do it over I would make the shock mounts taller, but such is life. At least it can flex.

Next steps are getting the steering servo in and adding a panhard rod.

I finally got the servo mount and panhard rod mount brazed in so I thought I would assemble it and see if it works. It seems to work pretty well, even if it needs a little adjustment. "thumbsup"

mate rig is looking mint, i wish they made more scale shells of these cars that are common in aus,
your brazing joins look clean what are you using to braze them?

Thanks for the kind words. I love the Aussie rigs, especially the Landcruisers and Nissan Patrols you guy have down there. It seems like every country in the world has small trucks with diesels and we yanks are left out in the cold. The smallest truck you can get in the states with a diesel is a Ford F-250. Shameful.

Anywho, this is what I use to braze. Nothing facy, just a cheap Bernzomatic, Stay-Silv flux and some Safety-Silv 45. That's all you need. "thumbsup"

lol...that is awesome!!!
glad to see some different style "thumbsup"
like that front bumper and tube bed as well

Great build I am looking for this body over the radio shack one assuming I can find it. Can you tell me how wide it is? I am thinking of using a Mojave or Hulix bed for a class 1 rig

This is the Discovery version. While the Radio Shack one is about the same scale, the lines aren't quite right, especially the fenders.

And at its widest point in the cab it's 16.4cm.

Work is on hold at the moment. I am neck-deep in freelance work right now. The good thing is once that's done, money is no object. "thumbsup"

inspiration? I'm glad to see the axial axles don't look too wide...the one below is running rc4wd beowulf axles.

Nice one.

Just in case anyone is interested, there are two of these bodies/trucks on ebay right now. You can find them by searching for "crocodile truck." One is a mild $40 and the other is going for around $100 with shipping. Just FYI.

I have been doing a little body work recently. I added an indentation for the gas cap, and patched the gaping hole in the roof.
