Prodigal JK Project

re: "Prodigal JK Project"

Nothing major for updates other than I ordered some new beadlock rings and I am gathering some parts for the next mod.
I'll post up some pics of the new rings when I get them mounted up.

re: "Prodigal JK Project"

So I got my MTHead delrin beadlock rings and I gotta say they are pretty sweet. (I would rather be setting up some VP's or Mayhem's but...)
The rings are quite a bit thicker than I was expecting they would be and seem very strong. I went with a little bit of a different pattern and had extra holes for some dummy bolts. I also switched all of the hardware over to stainless.

Now I just need to get them on the rocks to test them out.

Wow bro, I fell in love with this build from page 1!! I love it soo much! And may I ask, what thread did you find the brazing in? Cause I have absolutely no clue on how to do it and can't find anything.

The SS hardware really "pops" in those pics. Looking good!
Thanks...just a little blingy;-)

Ha...thanks very much. Most of the how to's for brazing are in the "tools and procedures" forum. This video is super helpful...http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/tools-procedures/79704-brazing-video.html. If you get into Tools and Procedures do a "search this forum" for brazing, the tab right above the page numbers. Feel free to PM with any specific ?'s and I'll help any way that I can"thumbsup"

OK...so I decided to give rear steering a chance. I gotta say I was skeptical but I am REALLY digging it!"thumbsup" I just used the stock plastic knucks and c-hubs to check it out. Then I ended up making some links...looks like I will have to upgrade to aluminum cuz the rear steer is definitely staying. I used a piece of aluminum to mount the servo as high as possible.

This made me realize why I went through all of the trouble to make the cage removable...pretty sure this mod would have had to start with the torch:shock:

Also I did a mod to the TQ3 I have been using. I added a push button switch (on/off) to the back so when it is turned on I can use the factory toggle to turn L&R. When the button is switched off the wheels return to center. It works perfectly! (not my idea, found it on YouTube)

Are you having to bride the girls with a sucker for them to allow you to use the kitchen table instead of the garage.

Hey buddy-no bribes...I just have to wait until they go to bed. The sucky part is I had to clean up my "mess" almost every night. I recently set up a folding table to use and leave set up. It's just too hot out in the garage right now!

BTW...I do have to bribe them in order to let me order parts though"thumbsup"
(and that ended up being my sucker!)

So I have been trying to come up with an acceptable way to hide the mounting holes that I drilled in the hood. I have too much time in this stinkin body to turn back now:| It still has to hold the front of the body on. I decided to do a small hood scoop, and the design was tougher to come up with than I had expected. The 1st one was too high, 2nd one was too square...settled on this.

3 pieces of styrene glued together

Then I dremeled, filed and sanded it to the shape I wanted
photobucket-1076-1341973149772.jpg

Drilled some holes in the body to countersink and epoxy in some "earth magnets", and two holes to locate the scoop on the body posts.

Then I cut some sleeves to shim up a strip of metal to "catch" the magnets from under the hood

Ended up painting the hood and the scoop flat black. It does a really good job of keeping the body on and I like the looks too:mrgreen:

So then is the body completely held on by only magnets now? If so, how do they hold up in regards to keeping the body on?

Those earth magnets are quite strong. I have one on my mog that holds down panel, no problem.

you got mad skills bro!!!
Thanks man!

Yeah the front is, the back is really tight around the tube work. Those magnets are really strong. I ended up putting 2 magnets on the metal cross piece to help it secure the body better. So its magnet to magnet.

I told my daughter I would give her a $20 if she could get them apart...she tried for about 5 minutes and gave up. (these were the smallest ones they had too, the big ones are dangerous man)

When I was younger I had some the bigger ones given to me was told not to snap togther because they will break your finger.

Awesome job on the build. The rear steer is super cool. 8)
