After reading a bunch of articles online I am pretty nervous. It has been around 7 hours and he's acting fine, but I am just being paranoid. I would hate to find out that the bone splintered or got lodged. Whats your guys opinions on dogs eating a cooked pork chop bone? Should I be concerned?

the main concern is it getting lodged in his throat. if that did not happen he should be ok.

I don't think it got lodged in his throat, he hasn't been coughing or anything like that. So I hope that means he will pass it and we will be in the clear.

Only bones to really worry about are smaller bones out of birds. They can splinter almost like needles and get lodged much easier. Pork chops and steaks and rib bones your good. They crush pretty good and are fine to give to dogs. Unless the just try to eat it to fast and I guess it could get lodged like already mentioned.

Thanks guys, that makes me feel better. Everything is all good this morning, he is still eating normal and he took his morning crap. :). I'll still keep a close eye on him for a few days just to make sure he's ok. Then no more real bones for him, I'll stick to the dog treats.

dogs love bones. I would say any cooked bone from a 4 legged animal is fine to give to a dog as a treat. My dogs love when I eat ribs. They get snacks for days

Actually cooked bones are the worst for dogs. Google it.

I've lost a dog that way. Sorry to be a downer. I hope your dog is ok, it might not be a bad idea to go to the vet for some x-rays. Better to not wait till something is wrong.

Definitely sorry for your loss. Ive been giving my dogs chop, steak, rib bones forever now. I can't say I'll stop but I wont tell people its OK to do from now on. Would hate to have someone hurt their dog on my part.

Ive always heard no chicken bones but your beef/pork bones are fine.

Someone mentioned cooked bones are worse, funny how every bone you buy at the store is smoked.

Only bones my pit gets are beef/pork storebought or when I bbq a pork butt.

666, How long did it take from giving him the bone until he got sick? Did you notice any symptoms of the clogged intestines?

I don't feed my dogs people food. Look what it does to us.:ror:

LOL Actually we feed our basset hounds fruits and veggies, they love carrots(which helps clean their teeth),cucumbers, peas, green beans.. they are the healthiest bassets and are right on weight for their size. "thumbsup" Dog treats are very unhealthy for them unless you get blue buffalo or one of those "natural treats". Biggest thing is most dog foods are full of corn/bean meal and dont fill the dogs up. We feed ours the blue buffalo and they eat about 3/4 of a cup twice a day. It cut down to half of what other we were feeding them of normal dog foods(plus cut down on allergies and sheding)

Just make sure he keeps eating and poopin. It sounds like he should be able to push it through but keep an eye on him.

Green beans are a great for bulking up a dogs diet. They won't do much for them nutritionally but will help reduce the amount of food they want to eat since they will feel full. Carrots also make good treats for the same reasons, if your dogs like the taste. I stick to diets with decent meat content, as listed in the first few ingredients. After having one dog bloat, I made sure to stay away from high grain diets since they are one of the suspects in causing bloat.

You'll know if there's a problem.
If he starts barfing up his food or gets diarrhea, take him to the vet.
If not, he'll be ok... watch him for a few days though.

I've been through this a few times.
I had a boxer eat a beer bottle cap!
Took 3 surgeries and $3,500 to get it out.

On the other hand, one of my current dogs swallowed a raw hid that my GF gave him while I was at work... man I was pissed. The next day she took him to the vet and they wanted to do surgery but I told her not to let them for at least a day. Well, they pressured her into it, cut him open and couldn't find anything. I picked him up the next day and as soon as we got home he shit it out. He's had indigestion issues ever since though, I don't think they put him back together correctly.

keep an eye on his crap for black tarry looking material or bright red. the black is blood from higher up in the digestive track that got digested, the red is from further below.
