Official MTB / Mountain Biking Chit Chat

Thanks! I haven't done the travelling that you have to ride, but it's definitely my favorite place to ride. I'm really fortunate that it's an easy day trip for me.

Mmmmm , my new toy , Transition Patrol carbon. It won't be in my hands for 2 weeks tho , getting shipped from the other end of the country.

Northkona's post got me thinking. I know that he goes to Axialfest. I will be attending my first Axialfest this year. Typically my son and I take our bikes everywhere, but I hadn't given it much thought to take them to AF.

Do you guys take their bike to AF? Are there trails near by?

When I went down to the nue Cohutta race down near ducktown, tn a couple of weeks ago there were a bunch of people carrying crawlers around. Looked like the perfect place to crawl because of all the man-made and natural rock features left over from the Olympics.

If I could take a bike I definitely would , such beautiful country around Cisco Grove and it would open up plenty more places to explore (with 2 big wheels and 4 little ones !)

Rode the new trails in Cherokee today. They're an ass kicker going up, steep as shit. Reminded me of VM I rode at Blankets Creek. But, since it's reservation land, and they answer to nobody, and can do whatever the hell they want, they have some cool shit going on, and it's only going to get better. Like a one way jump line back down that is big enough to have consequences if you come up short, but everything can be rolled if you're not feeling it. I almost ate shit by coming up short and clipping the back tire once. My buddy did go down in a berm, trails aren't packed in yet. Damn fun stuff though!

Keep in mind, only about 3 miles of that is climbing

I had no idea that there were 4K ft tall peaks in NC. I should get off the interstate one day and just enjoy the drive to Jacksonville FL.

Oh, we have a lot of 4K peaks. Quite a few that break the mile mark, and are home to the highest peak east of the Mississippi, Mt Mitchell at almost 6700ft. If you like the outdoors, western NC is a great place for a vacation.

Donut recovery skilz building ride today. Coed dou 6hr race with the girlfriend yesterday (2nd). Ohio would have swept the Pa podium if it wasn't for that pro mountain girl.

Had our second MTBR GA group ride over the weekend. Great to meet some new folks, and ride with some familiar friends. And, other than the climb out of white tail, I don't think I held anyone back too bad on the SS. Funny thing too, I set 11 PRs on Strava Saturday LOL, and it wasn't as bad as I thought. I'm already chomping at the bit for Coyote and Copperhead trails next time!

On to the pics

Short break before the aptly named Granny Climb out. I stopped for a break, and could see somebody in the distance. Turns out, it was my group, and I had stopped within sight of the trailhead back to the car. :lmao: I would have sworn this was longer, and worse on my geared bike for some reason LOL.

Was that a point to point 6 hr race without break? How many miles was it?

The 6hr race was called Bradys Run. It it's laps on a 10 mile course. We did it as a duo team format and would switch off every lap. I think we rode 70 miles cumulatively. We have also raced in solo category in the past.

We race a bunch of these 6-7 hour races a year. It's good training for the nue 100 mile races. In fact i teamed up with a friend and did Tuscazoar Twain Raign if Pain last weekend which is another 6hr race. Just a really fun format

100 mile cross country mtb race:shock:.... Awesome! That's definitely a tough one.

Thanks for the information and congratulations on both podium finishes.

With 100 mile mtb races, you have to have decent fitness but 50% of it is mental. Have, i think 6 of them planned and 2 are done for this year. It is a great series and it gives a great sense of accomplishment.
