Official MTB / Mountain Biking Chit Chat

Had some friends camping at Jackrabbit, so I went over yesterday for some muggy riding, and good food and beers afterwards. Shhhh, don't mention the beer, it's not allowed in the campground. ;-) I also dropped 5psi out of the fork, and added 1psi to the tires. Felt better to me.

Speaking of suspension tuning. I borrowed a shockwiz from our fit guy and it was pretty cool. Think i am going to get one for myself.

Also think i got my money's worth out of these Maxxis Ikons. It has blisters all around it.

rupps5, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts after some time with the shockwiz given your experience level with mountain bikes. I read the write up on it a while back, and I'm a gadget guy, just not sure it's worth the cash though.

Had a Memorial Day ride with some friends today at WCU, took some pics, had some food and Margaritas after. Good way to spend what would normally be a work day IMHO.

Another day of tuning with the shockwiz. This time on the rear suspension. It's a pretty cool little toy. I'll do a write-up tonight on it.

Nice write up, and cool gadget rupps5. But, I personally think it's overpriced. At $199, I'd jump on it. But at $400, that's well on the way to a set of wheels for one of the bikes from my wheel builder.

That's why renting it is a good idea for this tool.

Took a trip to Fundy National Park today with my Fathom, awesome day except for the bugs and the obvious when you see the pic. Also, since I've gotten I swapped out the saddle since the original one was the most uncomfortable one I've ever sat on in my life, and I also swapped out the stem to a 50mm Bontrager Pro Rhythm.

Foot slipped off the pedal on a climb, my knee also smashed into my frame and then the ground after I fell

nice shin there...my group used to say it is not a good ride until somebody is bleeding! :)

CB, have you tried a Fabric saddle. I have been using the scoop ti shallow and it is great
I haven't, but I'll look into one. The one on there now is actually pretty nice.

My shin didn't hurt yesterday after I did it, but it hurts this morning. I'm pretty sure what stopped the pedal was my bone...The pedals are DMR V8's, so you know how big the grips are on them...

I'll share with you my weekend. As some may recall I am an organizer for an Enduro event here in my hometown. It is called the Fears Tears and Beers - believed to be Americana's oldest Enduro Race at 12 years running.

Where else do you start the race by riding through a casino.

A couple pics of the Pro/Expert downhill known as Whorehouse Hill. The bottom of the hill is a operating cat house. It is Nevada.

After spending all day Saturday in the scoring booth I was thrilled when I was invited by our photographer to ride Sunday.

Last weekend was the 26th running of the RRR (rural ,rainforest , reef) mtb race . Australia's longest running point to point race, I've missed a handful of them over the years due to injuries etc.. Awesome event , close to 650 competitors. My serious race days are a long way behind me for this event, I did get a 4th place one year, now its just a fun ride with a couple of really fast flowing downhill sections (the Bump track and Bells hill ). There are 2 race distances , 35km or 70 km both finishing with a 5km ride along the beach.

haha , you just cant beat that clipped in feeling tho , connected !

To each their own. I clip in on the road, not off road though. And once I re-learned the technique to riding flats in rough terrain, I don't have any issues even in places like Pisgah. There is a learning curve however if you've rode clipped in for a long period of time.
