I will play devils advocate here. Have had a dropper for a year on my all mountain bike and I don't think it was worth it. There is not an improvement in my downhill time when dropped. I push my seat against the side of my legs when cornering and when it is dropped it hits lower down my leg and provides less leverage and balance. If that was not explained well let me know.

It's not an improvement in downhill time that most riders are after when they get a dropper. It's the ability to get the saddle down and out of the way without having to physically stop and lower the post manually. I find that it helps immensely on steep descents, jumps, and drops because you can get your weight low and over the back wheel if necessary. You can get your weight back to an extent with a fully extended seatpost, but unless you lower it manually you won't be nearly as stable on steep descents and the like as someone with a lowered seat. Some frame designs also don't allow you to drop your post as far as a dropper does.

That said, droppers aren't for everyone. I was content for years to stop and raise and lower mine constantly (here in VA we have lots of steep ups and downs), but I definitely think it's a game changer. I use mine often and it was worth every penny.

Pffff, I did 3.2 miles last night.

Congrats on the win, rupps. "thumbsup"

Hey rupps, here's the boner mobile.

To his credit, he did ride 32 miles today.

What the, what..... what?
Maybe he should go to a different shop, think they steer him in the wrong direction.

No but he's considered a/the top Honda D series transmission guy in the US.

I did my 1st technical singletrack type of ride today with a dropper post and i tend to agree with you . The other thing i found was instead of concentrating on lines and obstacles, i found i was fugging around with seat heights instead of just riding. I must say theres a spot on my local track were you climb a short sharp hill and then drop down over a log Just after the log you have about 9 feet before a 4 foot ledge drop into a rock garden and it was here that the dropper is bloody brilliant.
I ride with a mate who also has a dropper on his trance , and let me say nothing is funnier than when he,s doing a wheelie and you get up beside him and press the button:ror: We used to do the same trick with the quick release on the seat post clamp , but the dropper button is just so much easier

Gear bag came in today and it is huge and feels very well built. Think I could fit Travis (dog) in it.

Comparison to the over loaded busted courier bag I have been using.

Shoe compartment holds my winter boots, race shoes, shoe covers, and my changing towel.

2 interior pockets for miscellaneous gear. There's plenty of room on the inside for helmet and a few days of clothes.
