Next rig?

That’s a great looking rig. With all the expensive parts I think I’d be looking at the Vanquish VS4-10 kit. I really like the idea of the portal axles on the TRX-4.

The vs410 is pretty solid but unless you really intend to buy all of the parts it contains it isn't really a great deal. Not saying it's a bad rig at all, just that it contains a specific set of parts that not everyone plans to use if left to buy parts separately.

Trxr portals are pretty good but the inner C is a big bastard that hangs down and gets in the way pretty often. The rear is a winner due to the portal box being tucked inside the wheel. You'll have fun with the bronco, I've found myself driving my trx4 more often than not in the inclement weather.

How the TRX-4 portal’s inner C compare to the new Gen8 Scout II ?

BroncoAZ - you will not be dissappointed. I just picked up a TRX-4 Sport as I wasn’t interested in the 2 speed and remote diffs. It is by far the most competent rig out of the box that i’ve owned. (Not including my scratch builds).

The portals offer a crazy amount of clearance as well.

I STILL think the TRX-4 is Overpriced for what you get..... But lots of People buy them.
I reluctantly LOVE that Bronco Body!!!!! 8) I just saw the first Review Video on the Gen 8... Almost EVERYTHING you thought was wrong with Redcat, is FIXED in the New Gen 8!!

My best Friend has had a 76 IHC Scout since we were young and stupid. Redcat got the Body spot on! Even separate front Grille with Light Buckets and very Scale looking Lenses. In back, Scale Taillight Buckets and low profile, Scale looking Red/Amber Lenses....

THEN, they threw a TURD in the Perfect Soup! PAINTED OVER WINDOWS with Black Window Decals!!!!! :x :x
Like a Kid's Basher.
But, they did a FRONT MOUNTED Motor/Trans, and a divorced, centered and low mounted Transfer Case. PERFECT, for a full depth Scale Interior - but, blacked out windows. FAIL.
BUT, the Chassis is a quantum leap!!

What I WOULD do (if you hadn't done already), is get the Gen 8, with the TRAXX-ASS Bronco Body - which is definitely Drool worthy!! The Gen 8 is roughly $150 CHEAPER than the TRX-4 Bronco!!!

....... Just my 8 cents.

I paid $382 shipped for the Bronco from Summit Racing on eBay. I really do like what I’m seeing with the G8, that divorce mounted transfer case especially. Unfortunately there is no 2 speed trans, so it will likely be hella slow or compromise crawling ability to go faster. When they make it to EBay with a 15% off coupon they will be a great deal at $255. My primary reasons to chose the Bronco are 1. my screen name 2. parts availability on the Redcat (no stocking dealers in Flagstaff) 3. Traxxas stuff seems to take a beating well 4. I wanted the selectable lockers and the 2 speed trans for a different driving experience than my spooled Axial rigs.

Really glad to hear you got yourself the TRX4 Bronco!
Cant wait to see your build thread and hear how you like it.
Great purchase in the HW1080 also!
I have one in my assender and it's such an awesome little ESC for the price. Just take your time calibrating it.
There is a good thread in the electronics section for that.

Well have fun and yes post your 1:1 swap in the lsswaptheworld thread!

I'm DEFINITELY a fan of the Selectable Diff Locks!!! "thumbsup" "thumbsup" NOT a gimmick, as many have said. I've been bugging People for YEARS about full-time Locked Diffs is NOT Real, and definitely not healthy for the Drivetrain!

I may not even SEE a G8 in Tucson before the next Summer.... But I'm definitely looking forward to seeing it! 8)
They DID do their homework - and the new Axles are NOT the Beta version from the G7!

I also had NO IDEA that Summit Racing sold RC Trucks!!! I gotta check that out!

I'm certainly no Redcat Fanboy, but I am really curious. ;-) 8)

A RedCat rep chimed in on a review video of the Gen8 and said stock motor on 2s is 8.2 mph.

I'd have to disagree Carmine. $330 for the RTR SPORT and you get portal axles, metal links with metal ball ends, locked diffs (I know you like remote locking), probably the best RTR tires, and ubiquitous LHS parts support with regard to Traxxas. Not to mention, as I stated earlier, it is simply the best "straight outta the box" crawler I've ever owned. At the price, it's truly hard to beat IMHO.

My sons bday is thurs, he turnnin 5. Goina take him to phenix city to hobby town. Goina let him pick out his 1st crawler. May try n persuade him to get the sport lol. Tax time ol dads gettin the bronco, the wifey promised hehehe. Cant wait til thurs! Hobby towns website said if u buy a crawler, u can run the course for free. So im takin PATRIOT (my scx10 ii) with us

Summit Racing, JEGS Performance Parts, and 4WheelParts all have sold Traxxas R/C vehicles for years now...

$289 for the sport if you wait for the next Ebay 15% off coupon. I like to support my LHS, but their price on the Bronco with tax is $501. I paid $382. I’ll gladly keep that $119 in my pocket for mods. I purchased by Yeti from the LHS, and I buy a significant number of parts from them too, but often the internet is where it’s at.

RE: Gen8...

What I dislike more than the blacked-out windows (Which can be corrected with some work, or by buying a clear body whenever they come out) are the effed-up fender flares.

Scout fenders are round, and not squared off - and why anyone would make add-on squared-off flares and then cut round arches in them I will never understand.

Well, the fronts are cut round and the rear are cut sort of squared, but that makes it even worse!

I think just going all the way and squaring off the actual cut of the front fenders with a Dremel to at least make them match is by far the least offensive option.

Otherwise, I suppose it's pretty decent for a budget body.

I can't stand the TRX4 Sport body unless it's got all the bed accessories added, and the grille is still awful.

Underneath, though - a damn good truck for a very fair price.

Now if Traxxas would just make all their windows clear like their special Adventure Edition & Camel Trophy Defender models without adding $50 to the price!

BTW - if you look closely at the last pic of the Redcat front fender - looks like they rounded it off to allow them to put their LOGO on the trailing edge!

Hack 'em up, I say... just pretend they're cut for bigger tires -

Well I think you made a good choice Broncoaz. I have the defender version, and i cant wait to really start building it up. In fact we must like the trx4's at our house cause my boy has one coming for his birthday this weekend, lol. One of the good things about the trx4 is there is lots of aftermarket stuff for it.
