Looking to get back in the RC Game. Which Crawler would be best to start with now

i have some almost 10 year old redcats that are still reliable and outside of a few upgrades have been bomb proof
anything gen8 and newer are pretty stout i beat the heck out of all my rigs and there on par with any trx4 or axial i have

i call redcats 90% engineered kinda like well we got it this far F-it lets go home let joe finish it lol
duh what um kay put this on it and this on it ah F-it good enuff lol but fix that last 10% and they kick but

Right now the one I am looking at getting is the Vanquish Phoenix RTR.
Right at this point i have 0 for anything RC Crawler left as I sold off all of my stuff from the last go around, Meaning batteries, chargers spare parts etc are all gone.
So I think the RTR from Vanquish will suit me best as it has everything i need minus batteries and a charger.
Down the road I might get another and possibly will also go the kit route as well as I did that in the past as well.
Just so you know the Phoenix has the more complicated VFD Twin transmission that is capable of rear dig and selectable overdrive. It doesn't come with the servos for those two things. The Fordyce has the standard VFD transmission.

I too was out of the game for awhile until a few months ago and was pretty much in the same boat as you. In the past I've always and only bought kits so I could build them the way I wanted and I quite enjoy building them. I fell in love with the H10 and bought that even tho its RTR but it was style truck I really wanted. I took the truck apart to better understand the new to me trans and axles but ended up getting rid of the stock motor, esc and servo. So idk the best route to go I guess depends on what kind of truck you want and the style of driving you wanna do.

At the time when I bought the H10 if I could have gotten the base camp kit for $199 I would've went that route and spent the other $300 on better electronics. If you are choosing between Fordyce and Phoenix RTRs I would go Phoenix just for the trans other than that you'll prolly be upgrading motor, esc, servo, wheels, tires.

Yea did quite a bit of You Tube searching on both the Phoenix and the Fordyce and like the option to add the Dig and 2 speed.
I think it will suit me well.

Then I'd say go for it. The Traxxas TRX-4 is fun on the trails because of the 2-speed and remote locking diff so having extra features to play with on the Phoenix will add a new level of fun to that truck as well.
