New SSD SCX10 axle housings

Why can't you reverse your motor wires? Running lots of timing on your motor? Reversing the power from your esc is still going to run the motor in the opposite direction.

running a sensored brushless 17.5t, switching the motor wires will work for the brushed and sensorless guys but not for me.

ProfessorCake, I agree that it would have been nice to know before buying, but mine are installed and very nice axle housings. Best solution is just flip the tranny. If your scx is built stock as per kit instructions Then tranny is already non flipped and axles bolt right on.

yep almost done with my trans flip, then gotta wire it up again. some weight will move backwards but i will just add a little more to the front. Also with the motor on the other side it should reduce torque twist a little perhaps.

Are you flipping or mirroring the trans? Also can't you just switch ch2 to rev on your tx then recalibrate/setup the esc?

What's going on with the scx10 diamond axles for the front? They gonna be released soon? The rears have been out forever but no matching fronts, what's the deal?

Many sensored 2 pole motors meant for racing have significant amounts of timing built in (usually 20-30 degrees). Reversing the throttle channel still makes the motor rotate the wrong way but does so when you pull the throttle in the proper direction. Flipping the trans is really the best option in this case.

yep my motor has forward timing adjustment from 10-20deg.

flipping the transmission worked for me. motor was in the forward left position, now it is in the rear right. the following quote helped me a bit.

Most motors are designed to spin counterclockwise for forward throttle. Its the timing advance built into the motor that usually dictates this. To run all the time reversed would be using negative timing. A motor can handle this but not for long periods and at very reduced efficiency causing excessive heat. There are specially designed motors that do run backward, like one of the E-Maxx motors. but the wraith does not need reverse motors if the diffs are done right.
Switching the motor wires will achive the same result as switching the throttle channel to reverse. An ESC is also designed with a Forward and a reverse. Usually higher Amps in forward with higher speeds. Some escs will light up green when you pull forward throttle and red when you push reverse.
You can use a combo of Motor wire switching and throttle channel direction switching with proper diff assembly to achieve CCW spinning motor and a green forward light when forward throttle applied and a truck that goes forward when apllying forward throttle..\\

Say all that 10 times .. lol

So what this all meant for me...

When I reverse the channel on my tx, I go faster in reverse then forward (motor timing issue) and my drag brake only works in reverse (esc issue). I can set my motor (Speed Passion 17.5 V3 MMM) as low as 10deg forward timing, this would be negative timing if the motor was spinning clockwise, the timing would not be an issue if I could set it to zero. My old Tekin RS had motor reversing option in the hotwire software, I think that would solve the drag brake issue, but the motor would still have timing issues i think because it would be spinning the wrong direction.

so apparently many motors are designed to spin counterclockwise, the new axles forced me to flip my transmission so that I could keep my motor spinning counterclockwise.

What ESC are you running? Alot of Brushless ESC's will let you reverse the motor rotation through esc programming.

Speed Passion Reventon R. Inexpensive and underrated esc, loaded up with crawler firmware. Run one in my ascender as well. No reverse motor rotation in the pc link software or the programming box, only issue I have really had with them. Like i said previously I know my old tekin rs had this feature (until I plugged the battery in reverse polarity.... *poof*).

I think it would help a bunch of folks if someone could post a picture of the CORRECT direction the tranny needs to be mounted. All of my scx's are torn down at the moment or I would. "thumbsup"

Here is mine in the stock location/direction. I simply reversed my motor wires when installing the D60s.

To get the correct rotation with timing you want to flip or mirror and flip your transmission.

I would actually recommend mirror and flip since it puts the motor back on the same side of the chassis as stock.

The following thread has the info you want and a great picture of the different configurations. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/axial-scx-10/377412-whats-mean-mirror-trans.html

I got my housings and other goodies yesterday. Spent NYE in the shop. Man I LOVE these axles. The gears sit so much better in these than the stock SCX axles. Plus with a little LURC hardware they look the part as well.

Vvds to I'm guessing? Are you running these axles? If so what do think of them over aluminum vanquish or the ssd diamonds?

Done , steering hooked up and XVD installed. The fit and finish is great , love the new look the gave my rig also. I don't think i'll ever buy a stock axial housing again. "thumbsup"

Yes, forgot the VVDs fit and are in my setup. Better than VP aluminum, slides over rock better and cheaper. Havent' tried SSD Diamonds, but they look nice.
