Servo arrived:

Time to take it apart:


In the vise to cut the board out:


One dremel pass:


Another cut:


Desoldered each half of the board out:


(I cut the board in half per the recommendation of Wil (Jokerswild) makes it a lot easier to desolder)

Then popped open the top half:


Cut this pin off:


Put it back together with a spool I had lying around (I think it's a Mad Dog spool) and missing some pieces:


Threw it in the front to see how it looks:

Then at some point I tried getting the figures to fit, well much to my luck, they aren't going to work... GRRRRR so back to the drawing board for that.

Tonight I'm going to try and get the electronics situated.

Almost done wiring!!

Mini BR all wired up:


Got the FXR and BECs mounted onto the skid:


I had to shoe goo the FXR as servo tape just wasn't enough.

Had to make one bypass adapter because my one BEC had some nicks in the wire so I chopped that and put on a new end.


On tap for tonight is lots of zip tying. I've got the Mini BR positioned where I want it, just need to secure it. I think I've found the optimal location for the RX as well and just have to secure it as well.

Killer stuff - that's an awesome tip on de-soldering the board on the winch servos. That's by far the biggest PITA in that process and I never re-use boards later. Short fuse is looking awesome :mrgreen:

Yeah, Wil (Jokerswild was really helpful with tips for that whole process)

I think I need to get a license plate that says Short Fuse. I wonder if that would fit with some slight modifications. Or maybe SHT FSE haha

Got it wired together, threw some scale stuff on it to get it to -49.

I'll be testing and taking video tomorrow and then going to a NWSRC comp on Sunday.

I'll post up the rest of the build pics in the next day or two.

The performance of this truck is unreal! Climbed so many lines with ease. I'm working to get the video uploaded to Youtube so I can post it here.
I could've drove a little better. All and all I think I got 2nd place.
I had a little bit of an issue of the truck nose diving when one of the front tires would fall into a hole. I'll have to try and go simulate this and try and figure out why it's doing that and how can I avoid that.

Took this out last night with a couple local guys at Walker.





Barely took any photos and no videos :/

Tried out a lot of tough lines. One I couldn't even replicate after I drove it clean on the first try. Getting a better feel for using rear steer and definitely using it to pull off lines that I wouldn't be able to with out it.

Overall I'm really impressed with how this truck does. The weight distribution is excellent and the custom RB2 hook up really well!

That thing looks like it just keeps getting harder to beat :lol:

I was thinking about your diving into a whole issue the other day (I have the same problem). I think it's a combination of a light rear end, with a low travel suspension that causes it. I'm going to try pulling some of the limiters out of my back shocks and maybe running a softer spring.

Had a leaky rear shock so I popped that off and filled it back up and checked the seal. Decided while I was doing that to bust out the Aluminum screws and thin M3 nuts to try and drop some weight.


Before weight was 6 lbs 8.1 ounces (no battery), after weight was 6 lbs 7.9 ounces. Truck is all ready for the comp tomorrow!

what shock oil did you use on the rear ? those big bores usually hold up without leaks not to say that i haven't seen one leak before tho... Now i only use the mip valves and pistons in mine its worth looking into ... Nice build and good driving !

That's the first time I've ever had one leak before.

I've thought about going to the MIP valves and Pistons but the current set up seems to be working.

Decided to try out the 4PK so I could use the thumb wheel for rear steer.

Then things went down hill.

Had the buttons for the winch slightly off and ended up stalling and smoking the winch motor... (I've got another one on the way)

Mini BR (winch controller ESC) seems to be getting really hot under no load. Not sure if I damaged it at all, but it seems to work fine when I hooked it up with a motor. I guess I'll find out when the new servo arrives.

Based on some prelim testing in my living room, the thumb wheel will be a huge improvement for rear steer. Much quicker and smoother than the 3 POS switch on the 4PL

Not much to update from a build perspective. But I have been comping it. Managed to pull 2nd place at the annual East vs West event:



And then managed to pull a 1st place finish over the pass at Entiat against most of the top drivers in the state!
