You pretty much nailed it on the shocks it looks like.

Running a set up like this keeps the rigged sucked down and it will do some things amazingly well. MG200 turned me on to the idea after watching him do an impossible side hill that I immediately bailed off of with my first class 3.

The short outer springs in the rear assist with a "bump" scenario. With a low slung droop car a "bump" is almost always necessary on a break over. The partial spring set up lets it absorb the hit much better and doesn't feel as dead.

Thanks! I spent a decent amount of time looking at pics of the shocks on the truck and tried my best to mimic it.

Well, I received some bad news today. I won't be able to get the chassis back until sometime next week. ughhhhh

Finally made some new progress on this (not having the cage back has killed my motivation). I decided to get the panels stripped of the current paint on them.

I used this paint stripper, my buddies had it in their garage from a different project but said it was pretty good stuff (they're usually spot on with recommendations)


Spraying on the first coat, I let the paint stripper sit/soak for about 10 minutes then used a plastic putty blade to scrap off the paint.


Most of the paint came right off,as you can see by the sludge of paint in this pic. The hood appeared to have a couple extra layers on it so it didn't come off as clean


Side panels came out pretty well, just a little paint here and there.


Ready for the second coat. You can see how much more paint was on the hood compared to the side panels

No more paint! Panels came out really clean and are all ready for paint (hopefully Wednesday).

I hope so! Will really just be getting the electronics situated and assembling everything. I might even start soldering some electrical stuff as I kind of have a feel for where it will be going.

Paint time!

In the booth waiting for primer:


Primer I'm using (highly recommend it!)


I did two coats of primer:




Then top coated it with this metallic burgundy:

It's a little duller than I'd like. I'm going to buy some clear on the way home and hit them with a coat or two of that tonight.

Called the powder coat company, guy was doing the chassis right now and it should be ready for pickup in the morning!

About freaking time!

Means I need to make the seats tonight as well so I can spend tomorrow and Saturday getting everything ready.

Hit it with two light coats and one heavier final coat:




I think it really helped make the color pop. I think I needed to go a little heavier on the hood, side panels turned out really well I think.

Overall I'm pleased with the result and it's pretty much exactly what I envisioned in my head when I went down the path of painting.

Got the chassis on the table and grabbed the parts box:

If you've seen this truck before, you'll notice I put the floor pan in wrong, ugh. Didn't realize this till later.

I went with a 14t pinion gear. Setting the gear mesh and getting the motor mounted was kind of a pain due to the way it is in there. As you can see I took the floor back out for easier access.

The winch I made won't fit due to size constraints. I'll be picking up a savox and hacking it until it fits!

Mounting the electronics has proven to be quite frustrating. I wired everything up and tested to make sure it worked outside the truck. Really liking the low gearing I went with. Also, these blue bird servos have a ton of torque and are really fast.

My issues have been trying to lay out the electronics in the limited space just the way I want it. I normally direct solder most stuff but knowing that wiring up this truck was going to be more difficult I decided to make everything plug and play. I think on some of these items I made the wires too short and therefore kind of designed myself into box. I'm going to try and get the layout down of everything more and then redo some wiring.

My plan is to mount the esc and the two BECs on the skid plate. Mount the winch esc up in the hood on the passenger side.
I still haven't come up with a good location for the receiver.

Forgot to mention.

A week or so ago I offered up to Justin to extend the deadline by a month because I still didn't have the chassis back and I knew he didn't have his transmission figured out yet. He kind of scoffed at the idea and told me he get it done... LOL

He will be taking me up on that offer to extend the deadline to Jun 5th. However, I plan on having this running by Sunday.

Decided to clear off a whole table I had covered in crap so I could work on this truck without having to do it on my dining room table:


It's a miracle.

Servo comes today to hack and whack and make a winch. I'll also try and see how round two of fitting all the electronics in goes.

Haha, I did! I was up till like 3am Friday night/Saturday morning. I really wanted to get it running, but wiring and electronic mounting was just not going smoothly and didn't want to rush it.
