Jato The Ascender

Good idea! I just saw a brass insert to go under the battery the other day, can't remember where though...was thinking about maybe the same thing in lead plastidipped...just thinking outloud lol

I know a lot of the racers use these shorty battery weights in the 2wd buggy racing scene. Team associated part #ASC91744.

Thanks for part numbers RagerRc, I hadn't seen those in the racing buggies, but I've been out of that for years.

JatoTheRipper, Thanks also for part number McMaster-Carr part number is: 8954K146. How much does your meatstick weigh? :ror:  Looks like triple thickness of the heavier AE option which is 43grams, so about 130g?

How are you liking the SSD suspension link set now that you've had it awhile, anything you'd change?

Yep, these have been around in racing.

You're welcome. "thumbsup"

The SSD links have been fine so far. I haven't taken any massive tumbles with them though.

At this point the only thing I want to change on my truck is to adjust the HobbyWing WP1080 a little, get a new motor, and my fingers are crossed that Pitbull will release these original size Rock Beasts in the new Alien Kompound.

Did you use the short grubscrews that came with SSD links or replace with longer for more threads in the plastic ball ends? OK, thanks.

What motor? I've been looking how to move tranny and skid back a little so I can fit a 550 motor like Traxxas 21T Titan, love that motor. Yes, I hope Pitbull releases the original 1.9 Rockbeasts in Alien compound too. :)

I did use the short grubs that SSD supplied with their links.

Crawlmaster 13T is what I'm leaning towards.

Yesterday we got spring weather here in PA. It was a perfect day for trailing. My Ascender performed flawlessly again.

The SSD links are still fine despite some hard tumbles.

I really can't express enough how much I love this HobbyWing WP 1080 ESC. If you like smooth and quiet you'll love it.

I'm still trying to decide on a motor. I want a high performed brushed motor that's not going to need new brushes every 3 month. I do sometimes go in mud and water.

Nice pictures, good to hear SSD links are holding up! Thanks for update on Hobbywing WP1080!

Traxxas Titan 21T 550 motor is awesome on 3s, lasts long time and cheap! :). Edit, forgot 550 motor won't fit without mod to move battery tray or tranny. Maybe good handwound 35t 540 motor, otherwise HH 13T you mentioned!

Great day of wheeling indeed! No bugs, perfect temps, incredible traction...what more could you want? Watching your dad's Dingo bounce like a basketball was the highlight of the morning. :) That truck is indestructible apparently.

I see your still running the Codyboy axles front and rear, they must be working OK after all!"thumbsup"

I've never tried a Titan in a crawler. In fact, I've never owned a Titan at all. I've only driven a Slash powered by one. I would be willing to try that. I definitely don't want to get rid of the battery tray and my "beef stick". That feature, alone, makes the Ascender great IMO. It's too bad the "minds" of scale comps banned it.

I wonder if the Titan would fit if the tranny was flipped.

Ha! His truck is tough. It took a while to get there, but he's beefed it up a lot.

I like your new nickname for my truck - The Brass Factory. :lmao:

I've got 2 or three of those, never run. Came on my e-maxx roller, you can have one to try out if you like. I have no plans for them.

They flat out do work on 3S, I've got couple ideas to move things around a bit in my Ascender and squeeze a Titan motor in there. Tranny flip might work too, do it! "thumbsup"

FYI, they come forward and reverse rotation, just figure out which is needed for how you setup the crawler. :)

Is the Ascender transmission forward or reverse rotation?

It would use standard rotation motor in the stock tranny configuratoin, if you flip the trans, then you'd want reverse rotation motor.

Besides the motor I think the shocks are the only other area that need significant improvement with my truck. Has anybody put Axial Bomber shocks on an Ascender?

Yes good to know the 1080 is good stuff.
I wish the Titan fit, it's a great durable motor that can take voltage and punishment.

I would not recommend the HH 13t in this application at all.

Because of what you said. "You want a high performance brushed motor that's not going to need new brushes every 3 months. Plus you sometimes go in mud and water."

Yes the 13T is "Hi-Perf", but it will not meet your expectations under those conditions.
I think the stock Dynamite 35T is still a good option.

Jato, I was reading up on the WP1080 ( internal bec / 100% drag break ), and thinking of swapping out the SW3 on my ascender, how are you liking it so far? any issues / glitch's? easy to program and go.

I love the 1080! I really can't say enough good things about it. All of my brushed crawlers are going to get them. It's incredibly smooth and quiet. It's also as easy as it gets to program with the included programming card. I haven't used it enough to give it a long term durability review, but judging by my experiences with HobbyWing and their long history, I have no doubt it will be durable and reliable.

What's your reason for wanting to switch from the SV3?
