Interest in Rally?

good job rodney those pics look great "thumbsup" and thanx ty...i went looking around but apparently im blind lol

What length shocks are best for a dual-rear set-up? I've read the Blitz shocks are a good option. Any opinions?
I used Traxxas XXL shocks in the rear position. No spring on them, 70 wt oil, 3 hole pistons. I had to also use an HPI Savage shock end to make the shock longer.
Stock shock and spring in the forward position but I cranked the adjuster down.

The AX-10 shocks are longer so that would save having to buy the longer Savage rod ends. I just happened to have some laying around.

All four ax10's or did you keep the stock mini's?

On the rear, the rear shocks need more travel. On mine I kept the stockers where they were but put in some 70wt oil, then I added some ax-10 stock shocks with no springs and put 70wt oil in those as well.

That's kind of what I was thinking. More travel and more dampening for the hard "slap" landings. I'll find some ax10 shocks and give it a go when the truck gets here.

That's what I was thinking when I first started looking at them. For the amount of wheel travel these have, they get a very small amount of shock travel. I decided on XR-10 shocks, by themselves in the rear position. The dampening feels much better, but the spring rate is a bit soft. I'm going to put the stock springs on at work and see how it feels.

It's hard to explain what I meant by the rear, rear shocks needing more travel, so I'll try again here.

The stock shocks have plenty of travel and allow the full range of travel that the suspension allows in the stock "forward" position. If you put that same length shock in the rear position you will loose suspension travel, you need a longer shock in the rear, hence why I ran some AX-10 shocks.

I just emptied and filled my stock shock with Losi 50...I'm also moving them to the rear before I go dual shocks.

Wait a minute...this really limits down travel. Going with XR-10 shocks on the rear.

I understand you perfectly "thumbsup"

I am usually very patient, but reading all the post is making me crazy!:lmao: I want to start working on mine right now. :flipoff:

I'm surprised it took you this long to order one :ror: I ordered mine as soon as I saw Rodney pulled the trigger.

Took mine out today during lunch. The Holmes Hold works great!

You guys are in trouble now, you will have me spun out to drive around now. lol

I'm glad the drag brake issue is resolved....

Ahhhhh, more victims to sacrifice to the rally gods. :ror:

Good to see you got one going. The more cars, the more races, the more races, the more laughs. "thumbsup"

It's that TT-01 with a vxl motor and a sidewinder esc so I assume parts will eventually just go flying off. It has most of the aluminum and ball bearings already but I don't see the spur gear lasting for some reason.:lmao: At least I will be able to find the car by following the trail of Tamiya parts:shock:

Anyone interested in a pair of the T-Maxx remote res shocks for $24/pair (new)? That's the cheapest I found but they come in packs of 8 and I don't want/need all 8.

Mine will be here Friday! After talking with Rodney yesterday and seeing the general consensus, I'm going to start with the MMP and the Ballistic 8.5. Looking at the brushless version with the Flux system, it makes sense since the Flux uses a 4800kv motor and the 8.5 is a 5000kv motor. I don't think it will be too fast and it will have a nice burst for jumps.

Also going to go the route Jason did with the rear shocks and then I ordered up some RC4WD tires to try out."thumbsup" Desert King 1.55 in x3 soft compound, 3.66 tall. Then throw them on some HPI stockers.

Not a bad idea Shon. But do those tires have any traction? The almost look like slicks.

What about the BFG all terrain clones or the prowlers? The track conditions are really loose and taller tread might work better.

For instance: The Tamiya Rally blocks with their tall tread seem to hook up better then the HPI rally tires with their smaller lugs.

If you guys want to start playing with different tires we can just put a cap of 3.8 inches on the tire size. That leaves 4 or 5 options for tires right?

They do look skinny on the tread, but I was thinking more about the compound than anything. And there are a few more options in size and scale appearance. I like that idea for the size cap and also might add to keep the scale look and width. Keeps it competitive still, and no one tries to sneak in some reduced pin tires. Pins and blocks are fine for the rally cars just because tire selection is somewhat limited, but the MTDT have a few more scale choices available. Just my two cents."thumbsup"

Juan and I were looking yesterday. How do you fit a 1.55" rim on the MTDT? The 1.9's just barely clear the knuckles.

Unless the 1.55's get pushed outward, but that increases the track width. I don't thinck we should be increasing the width.

Or are you saying to stretch the 1.55 tire over the 1.9 rim?
