I am really looking into building my own Clod Crawler. I bought a RTR TLT Crawler on ebay and I love it, but I wanna build my own! I found a chassis that I really like. Would this work for a good Clod crawler:

four link mounts

I am looking for info or even a pic of where to mount the lower 4link onto the axles. i am building my own frame and have looked at many pictures but have not been able to find a good pic of location. every pic that i have seen has a tire or some kind of mount, crossbrace, servo etc blocking the mount location. i have my axles and do not see a obvious place to mount the 4 link. any halp would be much appreciated.

I dont have a pic but most rc's iv seen mount them thru the C on the end of the axle. The metal brace that goes to the center section also mounts there

If you don't know what a Pimp Cane Chassis is. It's a Torsion Chassis. No Links, No Shocks and No BS... Just real Simple and very capable. With not having links. This provides you more ground clearance from axle to axle. Just not in the middle. Also with not having Shocks or Links this makes it a lighter chassis. Which in returns gives you a Lower Center of Gravity.

So either if you have been into Crawlers for years or just starting out. It's a great choice for you. If your on a Budget or not. Again another great choice. You can save 100 or even 300 Bucks and but towards better Eletronics and such.

Lower link mounting FAQ's

Ok, I see the way that Junfac makes a lower mount and see in the pics from JPCustoms how they mount the lower links to the axle but are there any other options? The Junfac mounts look cool but bulky and the other way looks to weaken the axle tube so post up some pics or give me some info on to do it different.

The reason the TXT was cheaper was because you would be using the stock TXT chassis, just modified a little. The Clod option used the STICK chassis from The Crawler Store.

How do I set up independant front and rear steering & throttle control besides having a 4 channel receiver, is there an esc that will work to do this? :?:

You just need a 3 channel receiver if you want rear wheel steer or dig. Channel 1 is for front steering servo, Channel 2 is for throttle (where the ESC plugs in) and channel 3 is for rear steering servo or dig. I suggest a Traxxas TQ3 transmitter simply because it is REALLY easy to modify the transmitter thumb switch for rear steer by replacing the stock switch with a three way switch (on/off/on). I also suggest using a Rooster Crawler Edition ESC. you can find the ESC and a 55 turn motor for a little over $100. For another $20 or so you can purchase another 55 turn motor for your clod and will be happy with their performance. I have Rooster crawler edition ESC's in two of my crawlers and am very happy with their performance. I realize this post is old but I hope it helps someone. I know I searched for all the help I could get when I was building my first crawler and new to RC to boot."thumbsup"

Clod crawler

I am working on tranforming my clod into a rock crawler.Im having trouble with the chassie rasing on impact even when im engaging slow.Any help here would be great.Dont know the problem.

i'm on my second build and this one is a clod i have "stock axles". i see that a lot of people are runnin 8,9,10 tooth pinion gears, when i put a 10 tooth pinion on the motor and install it there is a gap inbetween the gears, how do you adjust it if there is no adjustments on the clod axles or are you sayin by the gearing info below that i need to go get a bigger internal gear, i guess i'm lost, please help if you can, my first build was with tlt axles and everthing was fine. thank you, jon

You'll need to add a set of adjustable motor mounts to the gearcase. Those will allow you to run anywhere from a 6-16 tooth pinion.

I just found a very simple, effective, and inexpensive way to make your own servo brackets. I used a small chunk of 1/8" wall 1-1/2" x 2" rectangular aluminum tubing. I cut off a section just as long as a servo. One section is enough to do 2 axles. Just cut the tubing in half longways so you have 2 [ shaped channels, cut a notch out of the raised portion, leaving enough meat on either side of the notch to drill a couple 1/8" holes for servo mounting. You can then drill 2 holes in the bottom to mount the new servo brackets to the Clod axle braces. They are pretty stout too. If any one is interested in doing this, I can post pics. Hope this helps someone out!

Anyways my question. I am going from 4 wheel steer down to 2 wheel steer. So i need to lock out the rear, i searched but couldnt find a how to or a good picture of it. Wondering if someone may add a how to.
