HobbiCo / Great Planes / Tower Hobbies

I think the technical term for Hobbico's current condition is, "Circling around the drain".

Seems like the only items that Tower has in stock are listed under "Scratch & Dent"...

I got one in e-mail from Tower that said “test”in the heading. It had a bunch of wonky characters where prices should have been. I deleted it thinking it was spam.

Looking back, the personal phone call from the Tower rep back in December doesn’t seem so weird, just sad that they have nothing to sell that I want to buy. If they Get that Axial Blazer in stock, & it isn’t disappointing, then I’d be happy to order from you Tower.

I'm waiting for the K5 too.

I noticed that they actually added the new Associated Trophy Rat and DB10 Desert Buggy to their upcoming arrivals list.

Interesting that they would keep getting more stock in their situation...

There are many, many companies that have gone through bankruptcy and come out on the other side as a viable company. There are also many that never recovered from bankruptcy. Only time will tell. If they don't survive it's bad for this hobby as well as a potential bad sign of things to come.

As I have recently been notified of a pending contract close date myself, I certainly wish them the best.

Life is crappy enough without having financial uncertainty hanging over your head.

Well.... it seems like Tower's slowly getting some items back in stock.

Some Team Associated and Axial stuff came in stock, and it looks like Tamiya should be following shortly.

I think I made it through five minutes. He could have condensed that 5 minutes into two sentences:

1) I bought a Traxxas 4x4 Slash and, while good at first, gave me nothing but quality issues.

2) I bought an Aarma Kraton and it's been rock-solid since purchase.

Obviously, he slept through the part of English class where they teach how to construct a thesis. That's kind of important if you want people to listen to what you have to say. Make your point in your first couple of sentences and then spend the rest of the time backing your statement up.

I hammer this into my kids' heads all the time when they pull the "it's only the internet..." card. I explain to them that you are how you present yourself, and if you present yourself as an illiterate, expect to be treated as such.

Sorry for the rant. Things like this drive me nuts when I'm trying find info on the net. So many just ramble on and on and on... Get to the point, ffs!

Also, I really wanted to slap that flat brim off his head...

Thanks for assembling a summary, I only made it 15sec :-)

Ah so he's an Arrma fanboi. I'm glad I didn't waste my time watching it.

Arrma is probably the least creative RC company out there right now. They pretty much made a competitor for most Traxxas vehicles and stopped at that. Arrma can die tomorrow and I wouldn't give two shits.

Kinda hard to innovate when your parent company isn't paying its damn bills. They suffered a parts shortage for a while like Axial. ARRMA does have things nobody else has like the diff brain/adjustable diffs. They also have things that Traxxas doesn't have like a 6S short course truck, 1/8 buggies, truggies, and the Outcast doesn't have a real competitor either, as it is a purpose built short wheelbase basher.

Until recently, Traxxas hasnt exactly been innovating anything (Yes I know they are responsible for the rise of fast monster trucks and SCTs many years ago). Most of their designs are 10+ years old. Every now and then they come out with a special edition or a new color body and call it good. Look at their Bigfoot....:lmao: Nothing says iconic car crushing monster truck like slapping a cool body on a 20+ year old 2wd independent suspension truck with a tub chassis!

Losi had the Smart Diff. Are they similar?

Arrma forced Traxxas to upgrade the E-Revo. Their competition is good.

But the UDR is as innovative as it gets. Arrma doesn't have that. Oh and then there's the TRX-4. Traxxas hasn't innovated lately? Hogwash.

That's why I said *until recently.

Before the trx4 what was there last innovative product? The vast majority of their products have been around for 10+ years with little to no real update.

The fact is none of these manufacturers actually update anything unless some competition comes in and takes a share of the market. When there is competition, the consumer wins.

Nero has a center diff which can be locked along with front and rear lockable diffs.

Not sure about the losi, but Nero diffs can be adjusted on the fly and you can vary the amount of lock...

There were plenty of innovations before the TRX-4.

Here's a few off the top of my head:
-The funny car
-Drag racing Christmas tree
-The transmitter that can accept the iPhone for telemetry
-OBA (On Board Audio)

No, that's not the same as the Losi Smart Diff.

Don't forget that those radios also offer model memory that will instantly call up the model as soon as the receiver is powered up, recievers that recognize up to 20 transmitters, not to mention that the multi-transmitter memory, gyro receivers are cheaper than other companies standard 2.4ghz recievers on top of that.

Traxxas did come out with that "Super car" that does over 100 mph not too long ago if I'm not mistaken.

They’ve also just released the Desert Truck, which may not be “innovative”, but the best looking of its size, and though this is pretty old, didn’t Traxxas first design the diff locker on the summit?
