I do like the TJs. New Jeeps don't do as much for me. I'll always prefer the CJs with V8s though because that's what I grew up with.



I remember I was with my uncle, who is only a few years older than me, driving his Jeep around doing wheelies on more than one occasion. On one drive the Jeep resisted the wheelie and threw the rear driveshaft. We drove home in 4WD which was only FWD because of the missing driveshaft. :lmao: Good times.



:lmao: TJs are the best. There is one main reason I hate JKs, they always are lifted with giant wheels and tires on D35s. Not to mention unreliable as hell.

The only JK's with D35's were early 2 doors. All the unlimiteds and most 2 doors have D44 in the rear and D30 in the front. I had one, never again. I much prefer my '74 CJ 5 with AMC 360.

I6's, no matter who makes them, Jeep, Chevy, Ford, in my opinion, are all more reliable and easier to work on than a V8 or V6 any day. Had a 235 Blue Flame Special in my '54 Bel Aire, a 265 in my '66 Econoline.

Back in the middle 80's, a friend of mine had a '72 Dodge dart with a slant 6. Most reliable inline 6 engine around. He worked in Escondido, and lived in Santee, Ca, maybe 18-20 miles apart. Threw a rod through the side of the block on the freeway on the way home from work one Friday afternoon at 60 mph, pulled over, broke what he could of the protruding rod off, and drove the remaining 7 miles or so back home. His wife called me up, told me what happened, I hit the local junk yards, found another engine, met him at his house, we pulled the blown engine that night and had the newly acquired engine installed and running by Saturday evening.

Just like VW flat 4's, easy to work on, easy to replace
 
I owned a few WJ's, 2 had the 4.0 and one I purchased had a 4.7 awith a dropped valve seat. Once I got that 4.7 apart, fixed and running, I sold that thing as fast as I could because I swore I'd NEVER touch another one for as long as I live. What a miserable contraption to work on- it was the typical chrysler "lets shoehorn this engine into a vehicle that wasn't designed for it" approach for a V8 powered SUV.

I honestly liked my 4.0 WJ's, it wasn't fast but it did ok for moving around. The vehicle was big enough to be comfortable driving long distances and had enough room with the rear seats folded flat to stretch out and take a nap. What turned me off was when I got rear-ended and the entire rear section of the body buckled.

I always wondered why all of the I6 motors from the big 3 were always a counter flow head design.

My wife misses our WJ. We've had a Santa Fe, which wasn't bad (a little under powered with the 4cyl) and we now have a Mazda CX-5, which she loves, but we have yet to replace the space and comfort of the WJ.

I agree, the WJ was just about the perfect sized vehicle for me as well. I feel a bit cramped in my 3rd gen 4runner. The 4th gen 4runners are closer in size to a WJ, they are just still out of reach for my budget. I gave up trying to find a reasonably priced good condition ( no rust ) WJ in my area. I looked at a few when I was in SoCal in November, I just couldn't justify $5K + for WJs with more than 250K on them.

Bought it with a bad head, swapped another 4.7 in (talk about a ball buster of a job), and that one smoked when I started it up (but otherwise ran fine). I drove it outside, and went and bought a truck instead.

Hell NO! A guy I worked for had a WJ with a V8 and that thing always gave him problems. The only issue I had with my I6 was a misfire issue that turned out to be a bare spot on the wiring harness. It was creating an arc and causing the computer to go batty.
