Harley's Guide to a Bulletproof Wraith

Thanks Harley,

I guess my set up will be stock gears/HH TorqueMaster 540 35t/BRXL
I'll start there and see how it goes.

Thanks everyone for sharing your knowledge!

I'm building a Wraith kit for Axialfest.

For mods so far I have;
ROC 412 2300KV
RS Pro or RS Gen2 ESC
10A CC BEC
HS7954sh steering servo
VP Ti tie rod and drag link
VP stage one kit
VP akerman arms
RR idler gear and output gear
MIP driveshafts.

Any other mods recommended? Gearing recommendations?

I would like to do a front battery tray/servo winch mount and a Radio Shack small project box in the back for the RX, ESC, and BEC.

I'd replace the stock links ASAP.

Gearing info is included in the motor and ESC thread.

I bought the "kit" version so I would get the upgraded aluminium lower links. Are these still junk? The uppers are plastic still.

This is the bulletproof thread so if you want a link that is up to that name then you need something that uses a 4mm thread and a Revo end. The kit version uses 3mm threads and you can pull the rod ends off fairly easy under hard thrashing.

Got it.

Is the super shafty beefy top shaft sold anywhere but their site? He is out of stock and I need one asap.

Harley man!

Have you found certain bearings better than others for eliminating transmission top shaft slop? I am very picky about pinion/spur mesh and find there is a little too much play in the bearings to keep the shaft as centered as I like.

Are you running an aluminum case? I guess I haven't noticed anything to make me think twice about it. Im running a VP case in my rig.

I am not. I run a stock case, however the play in the top shaft is not due to the shaft or the case itself.
Looking very closely I see the movement in the bearing and where the bearing supports the shaft.

I will say I am being picky though, I have never stripped or damaged a spur even while running 3S on 48P gears.
I'm now on 32P.

I'm running bearing kits from Fast Eddy and maybe I just haven't looked as closely as you. If I get a chance I'll take a look.

How much play are you talking about? 1/32"? 1/16"?

1/32" - 3/64" maybe.
Could be that my top shaft has somehow worn just slightly where the bearing rides.
It is not enough movement to cause concern on 32p, but it certainly was with 48p.

to bullet proof the rear straight axle shaft

I have a VP Wraith Axle CNC Machined Aluminum for the front and rear
but for the rear
what axle shaft should I use that can take a beating
is the stock straight axle shaft good to go?
any suggestion?
In Harley list it listed as "coming soon"
Thanks

Creeper Bob makes Ti shafts. I have had great luck with the stock shafts though.
