Looks solid ... you should anodize it purple for stylepoints "thumbsup"

HAHA I'll have plenty of purple when this is done ;-) to bad the motor endbells are red... They don't match... but hey I don't really care since they are the nicest pair of Brood Vapors available :mrgreen:
 
I wanted to do it this way, but looked at the lockout and decide wall thickness would probably not be enough to hold. I just remember I saw it before in Yoshi's DD thread and now yours. What screwlength you ended up using ? How long have you had it like so ? I am thinking about doing a front case in the rear, as you have one do you think this will lighten up the rear ?

I haven't ran it like this yet. Its been one of my winter "rebuild" mods. I see no reason it will not work thou. You still have a screw on top holding it so I think it should be perfectly fine. I think the screw was about 4mm. And that was about as long as it could have been.

Running the front case on the rear truly doesn't make any weight difference. The reason I did it was, it widens out the rear so you can use a smaller hub on the wheel. And, I didn't feel like dealing with the rear case. So the front case was a much easier option for me. Keep in mind you will need custom rear shafts to run the front case on the rear.
 
For now I will leave the lockouts as is, if I get hungup on it alot, I will probably shave the nubs too.

Stil pondering the thought of doing the frontcase mod because I got all the parts for it, except the Ti shafts and Wraith lockouts. Or should I just get the Ti shafts for the rear case ? Any thoughts anyone?

So my effort to change the weightbias by lightening the rearend got me looking in the wheel department. Nothing dramatic yet, like a revolutionary lightweight wheel design, but I got some result out of it.

I started weighing ... sets of 2 VP SLW hubs:

hub - gram - oz
350 - 8 - 0.28
475 - 10 - 0.35
600 - 12 - 0.42
725 - 14 - 0.49
850 - 16 - 0.56

Then I weighed my current wheels without hubs:

frontwheel - 136 gram (with 725 hub: 143 gram)
rearwheel - 140 gram (with 850 hub: 148 gram)

Weightdifference is caused by the different pincuts. So by switching the wheels front to rear, the frontwheels will become heavier (147 gram) and the rear lighter (144 gram) and changing the weightbias slightly to the front.
 
Never mentioned anything about the lipo's I am using, so here it is:

type: Turnigy 3S 850mAh 45C-90C
dimensions: 55x25x31 mm
weight: 76 gram

All pics showing the RTR weight are taken with this battery mounted.

So ... a little update here. As I am running extra caster, one notch past max stock, I had a pretty severe problem with the left front tire ripping the battery off the axle when at full lock. This was happening quit a lot .... not nice :evil:

Therefore the big ass 850's made room for some smaller sized 450's.

Weightloss electronics:

on: GensAce 3S 450mAh 25-50C (56x30x15 mm / 46 gram)
off: Turnigy nanotech 3S 850mAh 45-90C (55x31x25 / 76 gram)

Looks awesome! One thing you should do is flip the servo around and put a shorter draglink on it... It'll keep it from hanging up and lose a little bit of weight ;-)

Less torque to the steering an some say worse angle for the drag link..

What is needed is a 2g servo guard to protect that 7950!

Thanks Everett. I am not going to flip the servo around, I tested it before and did not like it all.

Right ... hated the draglink angle.

As I apperently am needing a 2g servo guard, perhaps you should give me one ... just to show off your goods in this amazing informative thread :mrgreen:
 
Time for a small update ... I decided to loose the cab and run a body for now. Recently finished my sporty build and love the looks of a bodied rig again :mrgreen:

So I grabbed my spare Xciter body ands some Tamiya spray cans and sprayed silver, gunmetal, white and black together at random and backed with black. Finshed the windows with 2 coats Tamiya smoke .... like it "thumbsup"

Also installed a Custom Fiber servo guard, nice product and a perfect fit on the 7950. The body came out real well, it looks like metal ... pics don't do it justice ...

Looks sweet! I'm painting an exciter for my sporty right now. It's my favorite lid.

This one probably won't last long ... during painting the body some stress fractures appeared in both left and right A en C pillars :evil: I put on some reinforcement tape on the inside, hope it is sufficient and the body will hold up ...

Thanks Troy ... I dig the tinted windows as well, pics don't do the body justice, it is dang sweet in real life :shock:

The Custom Fiber servo guard was a direct fit on the 7950, and sticks on like it was born in place "thumbsup" Great product, maximum protection with minimal profile :twisted:

I really love the clean look of the base chassis. I replaced the delrin chassis braces with some Dlux Al braces, I also added a couple to the upperlinks. For mounting the body I used the Gunnar bodymount set because of it's biggest strongpoint, ease of use.

Now that is one clean rig. How are you liking those upper link positions all around? I run mine at the lowest points f/r on both the axle and chassis with an SA 3.5 at about the same weight as you.

And as for the rear lockout setscrew mod. I have been running mine with stock lockouts, ground down, and setscrews securing the lockout for quite a while now with no problems. And I dont back out of binds very often8)

Thanks, I have had them like this from the start, and am real used to it. Never really tried other position for a longer time, maybe I should ...

Good to know but I will probably keep them as is for now, It seems I don't get hung up much on the lockouts ... there is very little rash on them "thumbsup"
 
Looks great Ronald! The close up of the servo guard looks awesome! Don't see many of them with the horn on that side.
I'm still slacking on trying it....
