Guns for under $200

There is a difference between fear and respect, you understand that right...?

this is the only post in the whole thread that you should read Bronco. do not fear firearms, you must respect them. respect the people that use them. I do not know you from a hole in the ground, and from skimming some of your posts in this thread... well, you need to just calm down and enjoy the sport, listen to the senior members and people have far more experience with rifles than you and enjoy a .22 they are a freaking blast!

A shotgun is pretty much the most versatile firearm you can own. Don't trust anyone that does not like shotguns.

But can you take out a target at 200 yards. You actually may able to. I have no idea. It's not that I don't like them. I will shoot one and if I ever really got into guns I would definatly own one. I just don't want one for my first gun.

No... I don't fear firearms. I definatly have mad respect for them. You can't own a gun and not have respect for them. That's how accidents happen. Trust me I'm calm. It's hard to express emotions through words. I have been calm throughout the whole thread. I've been listenening and do respect every members opinions. Like I've said numerous time though. I didn't say .22's aren't fun. I said they are not fun TO ME. I've had so many bad experiences with .22's. Everytime I shoot one they jam or have some other sort of malfunction. Some of you will say that is either a crappy gun or that I was doing something wrong. I can assure you it's neither. I've shot many, many .22's and when they have malfunctions I hand it off to someone else to see if it's not just me and it does the same to them. Like I said. I'm sure there are plenty of really fun .22's I just don't care to own one yet.

Yes. Its called a sabot slug and a fully rifled barrel.(for fairly consistant accuracy at that range) I have both choked smooth barrels and fully rifled barrels for my shotguns. Takes seconds to swap barrels. There are also all kinds of cool "improvised" shotshells that can be made for the shotgun. You will have a hard time finding a more versitile weapon.

I'll put me & my 10/22 up against you & ANY weapon at 200m.

Like I said in my previous post...its likely not your last firearm purchase so get what you want. HOWEVER...You have a large number of older, more experienced guys telling you that you're making a mistake. Why you wont listen is what makes you a kid. Constantly arguing the accuracy & deadlieness of a 22lr is what makes you a kid. Get yer Nagant & have fun with it.

On another note...If someone breaks into your home, a rifle is a far inferior weapon to a pistol, carbine or shotgun. Theres a reason that our forces have all but dropped the 20" M16's in favor of the M4. The CQ combat that they're facing over seas make the carbines a much better choice.

Maybe since you're not gonna be able to shoot much anyways...wait the 3yrs til you're 21, save some cheddar & buy a nice sidearm.

I'll take you up on that challenge. I have confidence in myself. I'm not arguing the accuracy or deadliness of the rifle. I understand it may not be the best gun in world as far as either of those go. Of course there are better rifles out there. I would hope so as it has been over 100 years since it was introduced. My budget however is very limited. The name of the thread is guns under $200 but on the actual gun my budget is only $120 the extra money will go to ammo, cleaning kits and a scope maybe. I know it's definatly not the best for home invasion. Way to long and bolt action is of course not the fastest reloading. I've listened to everyone telling me I'm making a mistake and maybe they have owned one themselves, maybe not I have no way of knowing for sure. To them it may be a mistake but then everyone has their own preferences and like I said. The nagant fills my needs and from what I've heard is a really fun gun to shoot, doesn't have many maintenance problems and is definatly the cheapest out there. In the future I'm sure I will end up owning the guns everyone has suggested and I'm sure they are all great gun but the main thing right now is the price. I simply cannot afford the guns others have suggested. I thank everyone for their advice and have indeed taken it into consideration. I've researched each gun Somone has mentioned. Again though. I simply can't afford anything other than a nagant right now.

It IS a fun gun to shoot...for about 10 rounds...then it just sucks. Again man...you made up yer mind so just have fun with it.

If you want something with more punch and range, go to a cabelas or gander mtn and look for a used k98 sporterized rifle. You can sometimes pick them up for under $200 because sportering them kills the collectable value. The action of a k98 is the best ever made and even in stock form is far superior to a nagant. I had one that I picked up for $300 that had probably $1000 in work done to it, chambered in 25-06 it would reach out to 200 yards without breaking a sweat with easy to get ammo.

Another good choice would be a savage super sporter in 30-06. Old guns but they shoot excellent and you will definatly will feel it. I bought one at gander for $15 (no thats not a typo and yes it was recently)

Or, buy yourself a stripped ar lower for under $100, and start piecing together an evil black gun in your choice of caliber. Sure its more money but, the payoff in the end is well worth it. I just finished my latest 7.62x39mm ar, total cost with shipping of parts was under $650 and I have the joy of knowing I built that from scratch... And even though its an ar platform, my shoulder hurts after 200 rounds. Plus, you will learn ALLOT about guns from working on it and you will respect it more from the work you put into saving for it and the time you spent building it.

He's just a youngster...no black guns for him. Its not even legal for him to buy a stripped receiver. But I agree with building em yerself when ya can. Even tho Im in the shitty WAY over regulated asshat law state of Cali...I just finished my 9th AR build. Im a BATFE inspection away from my FFL...it'll be much easier & a WHOLE LOT funner to build once thats done. Its a cool feeling to put a round down range from a weapon you built from a pile of parts.

Why couldnt he buy a lower? In Il he can buy one as long as its not stamped "pistol". He is in Fl which has less regulation than here. I would think at worst he would have to buy it with the buttstock preinstalled.

Refer to question #18 on the ATF form 4473 that you must fill out. The explanation on the back of the form clearly states 21 for stripped receivers.

http://www.atf.gov/forms/download/atf-f-4473-1.pdf

Question 18. T)'pe of Fireal'm(s): Check all boxes that apply. "Other"
refers to frames, receivers and other firearms that arc not either handguns or
long guns (rifles or shotguns), such as fireanns having a pistol grip that expel
a shOlgun shell, or National Firearms Act (NFA) firearms.
If a frame or receiver can only be made into a long gun (rifle or shotgun), it is
still a frame or receiver not a handgun or long gun. However, they still arc
"firearms" by definition. and subject to the same GCA limitations as any other
firearms. See Section 92 I(a)(3)(b). 18 U.S.C. Section 922(b)(1) makes it
unlawful for a licensee to sell any firearm other than a shotgun or rifle to any
person undcr the age of 21. Since a frame or receiver for a firearm. to include
one rhat can only be made into a long gun, is a "firearm other than a shotgun
or riflc." it cannot be transferred to anyone under the age of 21, Also, note
that multiple sales forms arc not required for frames or receivers of any
firearms, or pistol grip shotguns, since they are not "pistols or revolvers"
under Section 923(g)(3)(a).

IMO an AR build for the OP (which is a complete newb) is not the way to go.

Its been a long time since I was under 21 so I hadn't realized. Does make perfect sense... though I have never understood why under 21 cant buy a handgun.

Ar builds are very very easy. Ar15.com has lots of great info. Aimsurplus has lowers for around 60 bucks right now but any decent ar build will run $5-600+. That is if you want something other then a very basic m4gery.

Did my first ar build a couple summers back. Been shooting it ever since!

I didnt read the entire thread but i suggest a 10/22 for a sub 200 dollar rifle. Cheap and fun to shoot with more mods available then i thought possible. Dont run high velocity ammo init because the bolt will bounce and keep it clean because 22 is very dirty and it will serve reliably for a long time.

Have you guys seen the AR lowers with the Umbrella corp. markings yet? I'm a big fan of zombie movies and would love to build one up.

I was looking at umbrella corp takedown pins yesterday.

You two aren't helping...

:)

Who said anything about helping...

The trend I don't get, hello kitty on ar's.

You can get scope optics for under $80... just dont ask for clear optics, good field of view or crosshairs that actually adjust. But, you didnt read his post clearly enough, he wants cleaning supplies, ammo and a scope for $80

I had originally wanted a k98. I love that gun. Absolutely amazing weapon but I couldn't find one for under $200. I've seen a few mousers at my local gander for around my price range but this was a long time ago. If I could find a k98 or any kind of Mauser for under $200 I would get one of them instead of the nagant. I will have to go up there once I get back from vacation and see if I can find any mausers. Or even your $15 gun. I would just buy both. I couldnt pass up that deal.

Scope Optics for less than $80...:lmao:

Best laugh ever.
you can definatly find a scope for under $200. It may not be a great one but still for shooting at long range it's better than iron sights
