Are you ready to cut those body posts down yet? :ror:

lol Funny you should mention that. I've ordered a new B parts tree because...well....the front posts broke off lol

I didn't want to trim them at first because I wasn't sure if when I did so, new/other bodies would fit. But $8 for a parts tree isn't bad if a new body doesn't fit. So yes, I'll be trimming the new ones :lmao:

Good call. That is probably one reason they broke in the first place. Trim them babies!

Small update:

Been running pack after pack and I just can't seem to break this thing! lol

Until yesterday, the pinion apparently came loose and slid down the shaft and chewed up the outside portion of the spur gear (about 1mm off the spur teeth). I readjusted the pinion, and it's still usable with 80% width of teeth on the spur, but I'd like to replace it.

Do you know where I can buy just the spur for the slipper clutch? Or do I have to order a whole new slipper assembly? It's the spur that has that hex shape built in for the slipper pads.

I think most kimbrough spur gears will bolt right up. I would pop it off and take it with you. But the Kimbroughs bolting right up was/is the assumption I am under.

Ok, yeah, it looks like JConcepts, Kimbrough, XRay, and a few others have them.

And fancy learning something new, they're called "Slipper Gear" not Spur Gear for that style of built-in hex pad. heh...nifty tidbit of info

I bought the slipper clutch when I bought my kit but I haven't installed it yet.

What exactly does it do for the car? Also, I read somewhere that it has a different pitch gear than the stock gears? What pitch is the slipper gear so I can match it to the other?

The slipper clutch eases the stress on the drive train, when something binds or you hit the throttle really hard it is suppose to slip on the "clutch", I.E. pads touching each other. This in turn causes less stress on the car itself.

The spur gear on the slipper setup is standard 48 pitch gears (which is used by everyone and readily available), whereas the stock XV-01 spur is a "metric" 48 pitch (which is really just used by Tamiya).

Turtle, thanks for clearing that up for me. I already have a slipper on my DF03ra. I'll put the slipper on the Xv01 tomorrow.

So do I have to replace my pinion so it matches the slipper spur?

That's up to personal preference. I tighten mine so that on tarmac, the slipper barely works on full throttle. You can hear it working. I have mine so it slips for about 10 feet, then I get full power.

I'm sure there's a more technical way to do it, but I'm happy with my results lol

I didn't tighten my slipper clutch enough on my 2nd build, and ended up stripping the spur gear completely bald. Threw on a Kimbrough 76 tooth spur gear, and now I have it working great. The slipper is super easy to adjust. To tighten it, just grab a hold of the small bolt with some pliers, and roll the car forward. Go the other way to loosen it. When the car is off and you roll it forward you should hear and feel the motor being engaged. If you roll the car forward and hear a smooth rubbing sound, tighten that slipper clutch! Both my xv-01's are fast now and I'm loving it!
