This will be the start of my build thread.

This is what I posted on Jan 29th on the Newbies Post Here thread,
Aloha!

I'm Jason or Dr. Tiki and I am currently living in Las Vegas, NV.

I used to race 1/8 Nitro On Road competitively back in early 2000's, but have been out of it for quite awhile. I have watched RC Rock Crawlers for a number of years after purchasing my 1:1 Jeep, but my interest in RC's always wavered back and forth.

I have found recently that I am starting to crave one. Something that I can take out when out in my jeep, play in the desert at the camp site, or in the backyard and in the house.

I was thinking of a large scale crawler at first but I find myself drawn towards mini/micro as my first crawler, currently leaning towards a SCX24 because of the aftermarket parts.

I'm just starting my serious research into it and I still don't know what I want except for something that has decent aftermarket upgrades availability and a platform that's upgradeable, though I'm not opposed to two crawlers.

I kept my old radio (JR Propo R-1), receivers and servos but I have a feeling that they are vastly outdated and un-useable. So I can see myself gettin a RTR kit for my first crawler and then upgrading the electronics first. I think after that, I'll just drive it and let the crawler tell me what needs to be updated next.

Jan. 30th post,

Thank you for your input

Well, I made some decisions. :D I am pretty sure that I will build from scratch a 1/24 Scale crawler.

And if researching a new hobby wasnt enough, lets go for two new hobbies!

I'm thinking a 1/24 scale would look pretty cool in a diorama and that I could dedicate one my cubes in the Ikea Book Shelf thats in my office to a nice little garage scene.

I wanted to see how much space I would have to work with so I slapped together a quick cardboard box using the stock SCX24 dimensions to use as a rough guide. The Kyosho Mini-Zs are there just for fun and so I could see a size comparison. Sorry, no banana.

In case you havent figured it out, I tend to go "All In". Maybe it's a Vegas thing. LOL

To recap, I'm not new to RC but I have not done anything in quite awhile. After years of wanting an offroad RC, I finally gave in the urge to buy a Rock Crawler, I do have 1:1 scale Jeep so it did influence my decisions in the beginning. At first I wanted to go with a Ready-To-Run and build from that. I figured that I would just play with it and over time it would tell me what I needed to upgrade, but eventually (the next day) I decided to forgo that idea and scratch build my first crawler. I am competitive in nature and as I started making choices for my build, I saw that doing competitions was in my future. This first build (notice I am already saying my FIRST build) may not be my final "dream build" but I figure it will get me there.

I will start my build soon and I have or have ordered most parts that I will need (at least I think I have). I have yet to decide on electronics. I picked my servo and ESC but I have not decided on a transmitter/receiver combination yet. The chassis of this build will be a Mazz-Design V3 Carbon Cheat Code.

Pics to come!

Oh, did I mention that I thought it would be fun to do a diorama as well?

Pics to come, in the mean time, this is my helper... and I need help with a name for him.
